Family has history of fertility problems. What can I do to improve my chances.?!

Question: I'm 31, single and thus not ready to have children yet - but I DO want them someday. My mother had problems getting pregnant, as did one of my cousins on my mothers side. (Her sister had NO problems.) I'm concerned that I will have problems concieving when I am ready. Is there anything that I can do NOW to improve my chances later on?

I am certainly not an expert. But I have heard that eggs can be frozen to be used later. In nursing school, part of our studies were that at age 35 there was an increased risk of birth defects, especially downs syndrome. So, maybe freezing eggs now would reduce that, I'm not sure. Other than that, just keep yourself healthy. Healthy weight, regular exercise, multi vitamin couldn't hurt. Also STD screening, some diseases can impact fertility.

I know that fertility specialists recommending losing weight for those that are overweight to improve one's chances of getting pregnant. I don't know if that is an issue for you though, but it is something to consider.
