Answers: I know they say six weeks, but that seems a bit lengthy.

Have a look at the following website, you might find some info in the answer:

I would recommend discussing this with your ob/gyn to see what he/she says, I guess we're all different and it would in the end depend on whether or not you had stitches etc and whether or not you feel ready.

Good luck and congrats on the little one! :)

The reason they say six weeks is to give a woman time to heal, Sex too soon could put your at risk for infection, but also because a woman is extremely fertile after giving birth as well and therefore, they give six weeks as a benchmark precautionary measure to ward off the chance that complications could arise from an appeasiotomy or their stitches. After giving birth, they usually start women on a low hormone level birth control pill. But women have still conceived while using it because the hormones are fluctuating.

However the real reason for waiting 6 weeks is your uterus. The uterus, which during pregnancy contains four-and-half liters of water, begins to reduce in size almost immediately after delivery. In about six weeks time, the uterus, reverts close to the pre-pregnancy weight of about 50g from a weight of 1000g.

Wait 2 weeks after you have stopped bleeding, and only have sex if it is not painful.

as long as you are comfortable with it then u can have it earlier.. but they say after birth give 6 weeks cause of the bleeding or if u have stitches or other complications after giving birth..

after you have started back on your birth control

Trust me it isn't lengthy. It is for your safety. You don't want to get some kind of infection and risk your fertility do you? Not that it is likely, but I would not recommend going against doctors orders.

The generally recommended time frame is 6 weeks to allow the cervix to completely close back up to prevent ascending uterine infection.

start asap.
but make sure you are using some form of birth control.
otherwise you might just get pregnant right away.
got it?
good.
Have Fun!

To be absolutely safe, you really should wait until after your post-delivery checkup, which is usually six weeks. Your body has to heal from any tearing or episiotomy that may have occurred. Apparently this will be your first baby, so you don't know if you will be lucky enough to avoid that. Even if you do, it takes a while for the cervix to close back up to its normal pre-baby size, which makes it easy to become infected, so absolutely, positively use a condom if you do have sex. Perhaps if you check things out with your (clean) fingers first, and nothing hurts, and you are sure everything seems to be okay, you could have sex earlier. I have heard of people doing it at two weeks, but remember, you still have ten fingers and a tongue for giving pleasure. If anything hurts or otherwise doesn't feel right during sex, stop immediately and go to other activities.

Has anyone explained to you about the sleep-deprivation most new parents go through? New babies typically wake up and want to eat every couple of hours. (It's a good thing they're cute.) You may not have enough energy for sex. And if you have any signs of depression, please get medical help. It is a hormonal problem which can make you delusional and can interfere with every aspect of your life.

don't worry, once the baby is born you won't ever want to have sex again, so it's not a problem
