Can a weight gain of 70 lbs cause a womans period to stop? even if shes young?!

Question: Reality check: if she had sex since her last period, even with birth control, there's a possibility that she is pregnant, so first, she should take a pregnancy test. Once pregnancy is ruled out, there are some other possibilities.

Is most of her weight around her middle/belly area, and does she have more facial and body hait than girls usually do? PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can cause extremely irregular periods, and is caused by her body releasing excessive amounts of insulin when she eats. The best thing for PCOS is a low-carb diet, like Atkins, because it keeps the body from releasing too much insulin.

If she doesn't have any of those symptoms, it could be a hormonal problem. (I started having menopausal symptoms at age 25.) At any rate, she needs a gynecological exam, (preferably with a female doctor), and blood tests to determine what is wrong. If she has not had a female exam yet, they are not scary. She should tell the doc that this is her first exam, and the doc should explain each step as she goes along. The instrument used in the exam, called a speculum, comes in various sizes and the doc will use the appropriate size. The exam should not hurt. The doc should also explain how to do a monthly breast self-exam.

Yes. Sudden/drastic weight changes can cause a period to stop, but it may be temporary.

Yes, It could cause hormonal imbalance. If this situation continues check with your doctor. It could be something causing the problem like your thyroid.More than likely the problem will resolve itself.
