I have an i.u.d. in and have been spotting for so long these past couple of week!

Question: it's getting annoying...anyone else experienced this?

Answers: it's getting annoying...anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I have an IUD (Mirena) and for the 8-9 months I spotted all the time. Sometimes it would last for a day or two and others it would last for weeks. I have had it for 1 1/2 now and I no longer get my period at all. If your in the first year of having it then I say hang in there. I know it is annoying but after it stops its nice to live without ever getting your period. No more bleeding or cramps.

Log off and call your doctor right now.

This is very common after insertion of an IUD. It usually settles after about 9 months. Some women can put up with it as it is a great form of contraception after this. If you can't put up with it for that long then maybe you should have it removed

I also recently had an IUD placed and my gyn said the breakthrough bleeding (that can happen with any hormonal birth control) can last for the first 6 months, which is why she has been removing more than inserting lately. Apparently, if you can make it through the 6 mo cutoff, it gets much better. You may want to contact your MD to see if there is something they can give you to slow the bleeding. Hope this helps.

I had my IUD for a year and 10 months and I could go with weeks of spotting. I also had terrible PMS symptoms all the time. I finally had it removed last October.
