Has anyone tried thyroid extract?!

Question: I have all the symptoms....dried out skin, cant loose weight, constantly tired, difficult to concentrate. My mom, aunts, cousins and every female has it in my family but was not treated until they were 35-40 (Im 32). My dr did the panel and everything came back ok except 2 parts and they were a little out of wack. He said for me not to worry and we will check it again.

I went and bought some thyroid extract at The Vitamin Shop. Has anyone tried it? Did it help any? What time of day did you take it?

THanks for any help.

Did you test the thyroid first thing in the morning? If not, the results mean nothing. TSH the most common thyroid test changes throughout the dat. TSH is highest while we sleep and lowest in the afternoon. If you suspect hypothyroidism (underactive) then you need to test first thing in the morning. Also, the lab range for TSH varies because many labs are going by outdated standards. AACE changed the range to 0.3 to 3.0 a few years back, yet labs like Quest still have the range at 0.3 to 5.5. If your TSH is over 3.0 and you have symptoms you should be on thyroid meds.

The supplements in the store may help a little bit. The problem being is the hypothyroidism will get worse and at some point the supplement won't help. While on the supplement it may throw off your thyriod tests, so that the TSH may not get over the level to treat with med.

Find out your TSH. If its over 3.0, get on thyroid medication. Show your doctor the info regarding TSH. (see below) Also if you tested in the afternoon, retest. Another good tests to have along with TSH are free t4, free t3, and an antibody test.

No, I've never used Thyroid extract but I have the link to a site that may help you find more information. The link is at:
