Is it alright to have your period for 3 weeks?!

Question: Im 14 and i've had my period for 3 week. I don't get cramps or anything, but im really scared. When i get my period it usually lasts for about 5-7 days. My friend said it might be because of stress and that makes sense because i've recently had mid-terms, but still that isn't normal, or is it????

At your age, your periods could do just about anything and be normal. You body needs time to get used to the major changes you're going through right now.
peace

No, this isn't alright, and it's not normal for you. You need to see a doctor. Prolonged menstrual bleeding can lead to anemia and in severe cases, anemia can lead to death. . .hey, don't panic, I said SEVERE cases. You need to get it under control.

No. This is a really rare occurence and should be checked out by a doctor immediately. Not meaning to worry you but you should go asap!

I would suggest going to the doctor, just to be on the safe side. It could very well be caused by stress, but it would be a good idea to at least call your doctor.

Generally periods last for 3-7 days. Stress can't prolong it by 300%.
You're probably not having a period at all.
Be on the safe side and get it checked out.

How many periods have you have since your first one, or is this your first one?

Are you on a regular cycle, starting every 28 or so days?

Is it heavy/light and what color is it?

Are you atheletic?

Are you on birth control (I hope not, for many other reasons)?

You shouldn't worry, but yes you should make an appointment within the next week or so. Even if you stop having your period before you make it to the appointment you still need to go. They will do lab work and possible an ultrasound or pap smear. Most women usually have 1 or 2 irregular periods. In the meantime, you should be taking an iron pill daily to supplement what is being lost. In severe cases you can become anemic (anemia can go away) or in more severe cases this loss of blood can contribute to heart failure. Basically whenever you have something you aren't sure about go to the doctor, especially since you are probably under insurance (take advantage of that). Insurance- another reason to do well in school so you can get a good job with health insurance.

Good Luck
