I'm on the birth control pill and it lowers my sex drive, anything I can do !

Question: I'm looking into other forms of birth control but for the time being I am stuck on the pill. (I don't trust condoms since one breaking led to an unplanned pregnancy, so don't suggest them.) I'm not looking for other types of BC (Like I said, I'm looking into it) I'm wondering if there is anything I can do in the meantime to help with the lowered sex drive, especially since I used to get plenty wet during sex but with the bc pills... *sigh* I think they might only work by making me not want sex. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You could try switching pills, and see if you can find one that doesn't have this effect. You could also try the NuvaRing, a vaginal ring, that emits a lower dose of hormones. If you're looking for long-term birth control, the ParaGard (nonhormonal) IUD might be an option. A diaphragm and spermicide might also be worth a look, though this method can be less effective against pregnancy.

A good lube (Astroglide) might help you in the meantime. Extra foreplay could help, too.

Here's an interesting article about this phenomenon:

You won't want to switch to the Ortho-Evra patch, though. They've discovered it emits much higher doses of hormones than the Pill, and this raises the risk of side effects.

Good luck.

If it make you feel that way a lot. Then I would go back to my pcp or gyni to speak about it. If you are in the mood to have intercourse but can not get to par then it is a serious matter. If that is not what it is then try to stimulate yourself and your body to try to get that limbido up again. Wish you luck.

Girl, I am with you. For 7 years I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen and gradually reduced my libido. None of my doctors had ever mentioned that this could happen so I just thought it was just my body. Then when I found out the reason for my low libido, I wanted to get off the pill but didn't have a choice but to stay on it. I decided to switch to Ortho Tri cyclen Lo (has less hormones) and my libido went up a little bit...but it's not to the point where it used to be before the pills.

I can't wait to get off them but I also do not trust condoms. You can try the natural rhythmn method (chart your cycle as to when you ovulate - avoid sex during ovulation) - which I personally do not trust but many women avoid unwanted pregnancies this way.
