Why do girls miss school just because they're on their period?!

Question: Last year my friend had to LEAVE school in the middle of the day because her cramps had her doubling over. She refuses to believe it, but she has some PMDD symptoms. Theres something wrong with having period cramps that hurt as bad as gas cramps (which those make me double over XP)

I really don't cramp or hurt otherwise during my period, except the occasional pain (its not every time) in my ovaries signaling my period's about to start. I don't think I've ever skipped because of my period. Mine are also really short, sometimes only 4 or 5 days (once 3, that was nice XD)

Short but heavy. Pretty heavy. I could understand people getting embarrassed about leaking, it happens to me quite a bit.

Also, like I said about the ovary pain, when I don't have it there is usually no other indication my period is about to start. I feel just fine and the school day will be almost over and I get the chance to go to the restroom and find that I've bled all over myself (thankfully not really noticeable from the outside) On the last day of school in 6th grade my pad slipped or something, or my panties got messed up and I bled so bad. Thankfully I had a longer shirt and I was pulling it down and having to sit funny, because it was all over XPP Thankfully it was the very last exam and it was band so I was able to sit down the whole time XD

And when your period doesn't hurt and you're busy, you can tend to forget about it (I did at first, especially at school because I could hardly ever get to the bathroom) Now if I'm wearing tampons or its really bad I have no problem announcing to the world I gotta go change it =P

Ok sorry for the long deal. Short version is for many people its very painful, and for those with uber heavy flows, they could be worried about leaking because, especially at school or work, sometimes it can be VERY hard to get to the bathroom.

The first day of your period you really just don't feel like being bothered by anyone

I used to miss school with them because i often fainted with mine

well i have to miss school the first day, because getting my period makes my stoumach so sick i end up puking. some people get cramps so bad they double over. but now im in cyber school so i dont have any excuses

some girls have really horrible periods. they get horrible cramps, are really tired and feel like their about to pass out, some puke, others bleed way more than normal and have bad leaking issues. others just want an excuse to get out of school. Just be glad yours aren't that bad... I am!!!

For some, they don't want to deal with the "embarrassment" factor of possibly leaking during class, and traditionally the first couple of days are heaviest.

For others, it's because they cramp and the pain keeps them bedridden. If that's the case, they should be seeking medical aid; there are LOTS of remedies for this type of problem these days.

For the rest, it's just an excuse....my sister used to use it as such...almost like a monthly holiday. The worst part was that our parents let her get away with it!

severe cramping and sometimes vomiting.

it would be pointless to go to school because you wouldn't want anyone pestering you and you could'nt concentrate.

because some people get it really bad and just feel like complete crap.

Vomiting, fainting, some have it really bad.

I've never missed school because of it, however I did end up missing parts of some classes because I would be in the nurses office on a cot with a heating pad across my abdomen because my cramps hurt so bad.
