Twins. Does genetics play a part in who gets pregnant with them?!

Question: Twins. Does genetics play a part in who gets pregnant with them?
On my husbands side of the family, every second child was a twin. So what are my chances of getting pregnant with twins? I just don't know too much about having twins....is it genetics? Does the male determine that like he determines the sex of the child??? Any info or links are greatly appreciated!! =)

To answer your question, a bit of review is necessary. Twins are of two kinds: fraternal, and identical.
* Identical twins come from a single fertilized egg, which splits within first seven days of fertilization.
* Fraternal twins are born when two eggs are released and are fertilized by different sperm cells.

Now, let us discuss each option.
Identical Twins - We do not fully understand why a fertilized egg sometimes divides, but we do know that the chances of that happening do not depend upon the occurrence of twins in the family (on either side). So, your chances of having identical twins are the same as anyone elses (about 0.4%).

Fraternal Twins - Noting that these are caused by egg dividing before being fertlized by sperm, the chances of these happening are entirely determined by your genetics, and your husband's genetics and family history do not play a part.

yea it is genetic and no it isnt a sex linked gene

twins are mainly genetic but, stranger things happen. as I believe it i think it depends on the female more then the male, because its the female who releases the egg or eggs,

your chances may be high because he passes on traaits just likes you do. Because the ones he got from his parents will be passed on o you and your children also.

It would be more likely that your kids can have twins. Twins happen when the woman releases more than one egg or the egg splits. He just fertilizes the existing egg be it one or two.

well it really depends if twins run in YOUR family like my mom has twin nieces and twin cousins and her brothers are twins and she had twins my dad has no twins in his family though
the real Q is do YOU want twins?
