Yeah it's true you aren't supposed to douche often. Any OB doctor will tell you not to do it at all. To answer you question we have to go back to the doctors advice. The reason you shouldn't douche often is because you are washing away whatever smell/discharge you have going on AND you're rinsing away all of your body's natural defenses: bacteria that help keep you well. If there is a smell or discharge, there probably already IS a problem-could be bacterial vaginosis or an STD or a yeast infection. Once you douche, your body is even less able to protect itself meaning douching is likely to make the problem worse. If you have a smell see your doctor or at least take a over the counter test to see if you have an bacterial infection. Medicine can cure it and Viola!--the smell will go away with it.
