Tampons during school?!

Question: Is it alright to keep one tampon in for the whole school day? It would be from about 6:40 to 3. I've just started using tampons, and I'm not sure if I have enough time during classes to change them. I could maybe do it at lunch, but I'm not sure. I feel incredibly gross when using pads. Would this be okay or should I try my hardest to change them at lunch?

you are meant to leave tampons in for 8 hours at the very max. Depending on your flow I would try to change every 4 to 5 hours. I think this is more hygenic and reduces the risk of toxic shock syndrome (read the pack instructions for more details on this)

So if i was you, i would definitely make an effort to change at lunchtime

No, you shouldn't.

I'm a guy and I know that.

You should try to change them at lunch.

Depending on your flow, try to change it at lunch. Otherwise it is safe to wear a tampon for up to 8 hours.

Its not safe to leave it in that long... u rnt supost to leave it in longer the 4 hours at tops.

Yeah you should probably change at lunch, one tampon only lasts about 6 hours.

you should change them at lunch .. leaving them on too long can start an infection

That's okay, but take it out as soon as you get home..

There is a thing called Toxic Shock Syndrome http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infecti... . you can get from wearing them for long periods of time! As far as a pad, you are practically a woman now and it's just part of it. They make them so thin now days no one, even you can tell you have it on!!!!! Try the panty liners. You should wear one with a tampon. It is better to be safe than sorry, what if you leak, I think that would be far worse!!!!!
Just shop for the right size.

TSS
Prevention
Females can reduce their risk of TSS by either avoiding tampons or alternating them with sanitary napkins. If a girl uses only tampons, it's important to choose tampons with the lowest absorbency that will handle her menstrual flow and to change the tampons frequently. Between menstrual periods, it's a good idea to store tampons away from heat and moisture (where bacteria can grow) - for example, in a bedroom rather than in a bathroom closet.

Change at lunch or tell the female teacher, she should understand!! If not, then send the "mama" up there!!!!!!

try your hardest to change them at lunch

Change it during lunch - or during gym class. You'll get quicker at changing them with practice.

No you will get toxic shock syndrome

You can leave tampons in for about 8 hours but i think you should try changing it during lunch you have a lot of time there.

I dont think it will hurt, but could be a mess if you let it stay in there to long, i would say i would at least try and change it at lunch.

Um it's probably ok but not really recommended. Odds are you'll be fine but you really shouldn't leave it more than 8 hours. Maybe you could take it out before lunch and then put on a pad for the rest of the day cause that takes less time... even though you said you don't like them. A tampon would work fine too, just thinking that it might be harder to work with at school.

well i am pretty sure you can only were them for 8 hours but if you take it out once you get home you should be fine without changing them at lunch.

depends on your flow.
but you can keep a tampon in for 4 - 8 hours.
so i doesnt matter but if you feel safer changing it half wya threw the day then change it ,

if you have time at lunch or gym class, then change it... you'll get better and faster at it as time goes on... trust me!

A tampon is only safe when left in for less than 8 hrs. Anything more than that and you could potentially get Toxic Shock Syndrome because of the cotton. Usually your Phy.Ed/Health teacher would know more about tampons and TSS.

With practice it'll only take a few seconds to change to a fresh one, hon. You could go to the nurse's office the first few times it becomes necessary until you're comfortable with this annoying chore. I wouldn't suggest leaving the same one in all day, because it's hard to determine when your flow is heaviest - and as you've just started, it's probably going to vary quite a bit for the first year or so.
