HELP!!!!/Paragard/Insuran... Qu!

Question: OK so im 16 in Alabama and i am dating the most wonderful girl i have ever met. We have been dating for 13 months now and we both believe we are ready for sex. BUT!!! we both want her to get this thing called Paragard, which is an IUD (Intrauderine Copper Device). I have done ALL the research and i have the money but the doctor that I spoke with said we need insurance. SO i was like "crap" so my question to you is, 'How can i get around this without her or my parents knowing?' or 'Can i get any kind of insurance at my age?'

You help is so greatly appreciated!

Speaking as a customer service agent for a major insurance company--I can firmly say that you never have to have insurance before you can get medical services. You will, however, need to be completely prepared to pay for the full cost of the services- yourself -before you leave the doctors office (around $500). I don't live in Alabama so I'm not familiar with laws there. It's possible that at 16 your girlfriend doesn't need a parents permission to get birth control--including an IUD. It might be smart for you both to talk to your parents about this. You seem responsible for teens. They may be open to helping you be responsible and supporting the decision to use a reliable method of contraception. It's likely that her parents have insurance and it may pay a sustantial percent of the cost of this procedure. The bigger problem will be finding a doctor willing to do the procedure. That may be why they threw that insurance crap at you.
