It's not discharge and your mother is right. The blood can be darker at the start and end of a period and once you start having them regularly it will just be something you become used to. It isn't anything to worry about.
Brown might mean it's just old blood.
It could be old blood. Old blood is dark brown.

Yeah your mum is right, it's just old blood (it goes darker) This is probably the start of your period. This can happen for your first time (the blood being darker)
