Hymen broke - am I in any danger of infection?!

Question: I'm 19 and I've started getting very intimate with my bf who is my age. Neither of us have ever gone all the way before. Today we tried. We ran into trouble cause my hymen was very thick and reluctant to brake, and it was painful for both of us. So he stuck his fingers in instead, and it broke. Hurt like hell for 1s, but I knew it would. There was quite a bit of blood, so we didn't go any further there. I've taken a shower, the major bleeding stopped, but I'm still feeling some mild pain and getting a few drops of blood here and there. Is this normal? Is it more risky to get your hymen broken by someone's fingers than the penis? Could I get some kind of infection? I know it's an odd way to lose one's (technical) virginity, and we didn't plan it that way, but what happened happened. I'm not bothered by it.
P.S. Before anyone starts dissing my bf, he's been nothing but wonderful and patient about the whole thing, so don't.

Any thoughts? Experienced ladies, this kid could use them.:)

Some women have a thicker hymen which leads to more pain ect. when broken. You may want to have an exam to be sure it is all gone. Also, u may be able to coat it with neosporin each time you clean as this will help prevent any infections. Found another question like yours that has a really good answer. Hope this helps!

very normal refrain from sex til the spotting stops. if it doesnt you could be at risk. cause he could have cut you instead with a finger nail and that would have hurt like hell also

you could always go to the er and get checked too just ot be safe

you should be fine be careul with fingers in there

Everyone's experience with their hymen is different. You could possibly get an infection due to bacteria on his fingers. But you could have also gotten an infection from his penis doing it too. If it still continues to hurt I would see your gyno to make sure everything is ok. By the way, don't be apologetic for being intimate with your boyfriend. Sex is a natural thing and you two are both consenting adults so don't feel bad about it.

Well for one I do not suggest anyone but a Doc with gloves inserting their finger in your vagina. Bacteria on hands and in fingernails can cause infection. But I wouldn't worry spotting and mild pain is normal. Are you guys planning to marry? I suggest working on your relationship and deciding on marriage should be your first concern before sex.
