A tubal pregnancy is what's called an ectopic pregnancy, one that takes place outside the uterus. Conception occurs in either one of the fallopian tubes and the fertilized ovum moves into the uterus where it plants itself on the uterine wall. In an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized ovum doesn't leave the fallopian tube. Sometimes it's because of a blockage of some sort, perhaps scarring. The pregnancy continues and the ovum divides and grows like it's supposed to. Of course, it can't do that inside the fallopian tube and if left untreated, the tube will rupture. Ectopic pregnancies are a painful condition and are potentially dangerous.

A tubal pregnancy is when the fertilized egg attaches itself to the inner wall of the fallopian tube rather than to the inside of hte uterus. The egg cannot develop here as it will eventually rupture the tube and cause serious bleeding for the mother.

Also known as an ectopic pregancy. It is not common, but it caused my aunt to lose her first child and an ovary. She then went on to have three healthy children with only one ovary. She was only eighteen and newly wed.

No, it doesn't happen very often.

A tubal, also known as an ectopic, pregnancy is when the fertilized embryo implants itself somewhere else besides the uterus, usually the fallopian tubes. The pregnancy has to be terminated since the embryo cannot successfully become a baby and will cause serious problems for the woman with this condition.

tubal preg. is actually the an ectopic pregnancy...a preg that occurs outside the uterine cavity...i.e the the fallopian tubes.
