Klonopins + depakote = weight gain???!

Question: hello. the doctor recently put me on both klonopins(three .5mg a day) and depakote(500mg at night) for my anxiety, mood, ocd, etc. Anyways, I've probably been on the medication for about a month and half or two a have already gained 10 pounds. I just seem to be hungry all the time and am extremley bothered by this. I was wondering if anyone had taken these drugs and if weight gain is a side effect and if so which one caused it? the klonopins or depakote?? or both?? any other info would be highly appreciated!! thanks a lot!

most likey, it's the depakote, though the combo may make it worse. depakote is known for increased weight. my son and brother both went through the same thing. my son took himself off the depakote and was changed to abilify which worked very well with out the weight gain.

loss of appetite is a very common symptom of depression that people don't really notice. if your depression symptoms are subsiding, perhaps you've gotten your "normal" appetite back. klonopin and depakote don't typically cause hunger or weight gain.

Have you read the side effects of these drugs..I have
never heard of these drugs being used for mood swings
and or anxiety disorders. I would find another doctor to
correctly diagnosis you....

my sister inlaw took depakote for 3 months, i think 1500 mg a day and she put on 50lbs. i have heard depakote puts on a lot of weight.
