Question for ladies only (a guys answer wouldn't be very helpful)?!

Question: so im 13, and i just got my first period last night. (right before i went to bed) and well i'd say it was a nickel sized amount of blood. so i changed my underwear, put on a pad and went to sleep. the next morning i woke up and there was noting in my pad so i changed my underwear again and my pad and went to school. when i came home there was barely any blood. so is it normal to have irregular flows, and will it even out as i get it more? im just a little nervous because its my first.

PS: what is a good medicine you would reccomend for cramps? they hurt!

thanks in advance!

To start with, your period can definately be wacky. Make sure you're changing your pad every few hours, even if there isn't a lot of blood, to prevent odor and TSS. As you get older, your period will become more regular. As for those cramps, I live by Advil and ThermaCare heat packs. Advil is an anti-inflammatory so it helps soothe the muscles that are causing the pain. The heat packs can be worn under your clothes and stay hot for 8 hours, helping to relieve the cramps as well. Also, try and stay away from caffeine, which can intensify PMS symptoms.

yes completely normal. maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that have a light flow. and as for cramps..............i have horrible cramps, and the only thing that works for me is Aleve.

Advil works for me. Flow will change as you get older. It took about 2 years for mine to even out and be predictible. It's all natural, so don't worry.

What you're going thru is completely normal. It'll get more regular as you get older.

Naprosyn (not sure of spelling) has been a lifesaver for me. Give me one of those and 20 minutes, and it's like nothing was ever wrong. Occasionally have to take two at one time. btw, Naprosyn is the generic for Alleve.

yes for the first year or 2 it is normal to have irregular flows you may skip a few months also but that's part of it all. first i just ibuprofen and Tylenol but about my 4Th month my cramps got even worse so now i use midol. it works really well and so i like it. oh and your period will even out. the first few are light then heavy. You should look into asking your mom about stuff like that

its normal, better to be prepared than not be.may take several cycles to fully regulate. eat a warm meal and take Aleve/Ibuprofen for cramps, they work better than Tylenol. Take when cramps are very light, kinda like a preventative measure. Lay down with a heating pad too if you are home

Midol, aleve or advil should do the trick. For all the advice you could possibly want go to beinggirl.com, its the best!

Ibuprofen and warm, moist heat on your lower abdomen work great for cramp relief. Hot baths with epsom salts are great. Chamomile tea is relaxing. Also, if you can tolerate a little bit of chocolate, it can be quite comforting during "that time."
