Answers: what is the risk to the child and the lady & what is the scope of treatment possible

A child born to a Hepatitis B+ve lady is most likely in almost all cases to be hepatitis B positive unless it is separated from the mother immediately after birth and fed separately by bottle feeding etc.,. The hepatitis B+ve baby is always born with light to deep jaundice ( called Homologous serum jaundice) which is different from a non hepatitis B+ve child who generally suffers from a mild jaundice between 3rd day to 10th day after birth, which fades away in normal course. No treatment required.
Now a days there is vaccine therapy for the Hepatitis B, though a little costly is advisable to have the treatment for all Hepatitis B+ve cases.

Ask the doc

Im sure your doctor would have told this person what the risk is but if he didn't then just ask him there is no harm in it, its a very good question.
