Ah, give me a chocolate fix any day! Actually the best one to ask about this is your GYN doctor or your family physician. In the meantime; low fat, high protein, low carbohydrates is generally a good nutritional plan to follow. That's the good news.
The bad news is that you may want to avoid chocolate, pasta, & grains such as wheat. Stay away from salt in all of its forms -- potato & corn chips, soda pop, canned foods & dried meats to name a few. The chemical compounds in these items interact w/your cycle to enhance the bloating, cramps, & tenderness. The worst news is that they should be avoided all of the time, not just between ovulation & onset of your period.
Another important rule to follow is to drink about half of your weight in water. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, 50 ounces of water or more would be a good guideline unless you have some chronic heath problems; thus, the question to your doctor. Water is what your body uses to maintain its balance, flushes out the waste your body's metabolism makes, & allows your body to do even the simplest things like moisten your eyes, prevent bleeding membranes in your nose...
Green leafy vegetables are packed with vitamin B's. You can also add a B complex -- which is all of the B vitamins -- on a daily basis. It is a water soluable vitamin so what your body doesn't use will be flushed out. (NOTE: if you choose to add B complex, the dye used will give your urine a brighter yellow color!) Calcium Citrate is another good one to add although the benefits of it will show up later in life in bone density. Be sure you also take magnesium so your body can digest & therefore use the calcium.
I do not have any suggestions about the heavier flow except check in with your doctor. There are a lot of reasons why a woman's period is heavy & the doctor would be able to ensure your body doesn't have one or provide treatment if one does exist. It can be as simple as hormone imbalance so don't become frightened, OK?
Give those a try. I cannot guarantee they will make your periods lighter but they will help w/bloating, mood swings, cramps, & general weight gain. Good luck!

When you are on your period increase the diet foods such as vegetables and fruit. Your crave is good.

fatty foods have salt in them, plus they are heavy so that will make you feel heavy. stick with your fruits and veggies like you should anyway. you can have a little chocolate here and there, but stay away from anything salty and drink lots of water.

Drink lots of water and stay active. This will help your period to run it course quicker and for your cramps to not be as painful. Try to stay away from caffine, sugar, and salt.

you have to avoid fatty foods because they make you bloated and make it seem like your flow is worse. Stick to fruits and veggies and some grains. I find this hard to do because on my period i crave salty and sweet foods.

also drink alot of water and excercise.
