IUD questions.?!

Question: *Please answer only if you have one, or have had one. I really want first hand experience here.*

I am switching over to the IUD from pills. I have not given birth, and I am going with a normal copper kind (looking forward to getting off hormones).

1. Insertion- how bad is it going to be?
2. What problems, if any, have you expereinced?
3. Did you notice increased flow or cramping?
4. Would you recommend an IUD to your friend or sister?
5. Any insider advice you can give me? Like things to look out for and little suprises that were not in the paperwork?

Thank you all very much.

It's a bit uncomfortable when they insert an IUD, the clinician uses a clamp to hold the cervix in place and it does feel strange, you will probably have some cramping for the first day or two. This could be more being that you have never had a child, I had mine twenty years after the birth of my last child. The only problem's that I have noticed is that my periods are heavier and my cramps have been worse, but not unmanagable. Yes I would recomend an IUD to everyone, I got sick of the hormones as well. Practice some relaxation, breathing, meditation before hand so that you can do it during the procedure. It's about the same as pelvic exam. Hope this helps. Good luck.

one time i ate one and then i put the rest up my ***

First of all I am a man, but I was a medical specialist representative in the field of female fertility. So while I've never had one, I've seen many fitted and various other examinations of your naughty bits.

The coils is fitted by a doctor, after he has examined your cervix and womb after using the not so nice speculum so he can see properly.

He inserts an instrument not unlike a straw through the cervix and leaves the coil inside the womb, two soft threads hang down inside the vagina so you can check yourself that it's still in place, it also makes it easier to take out when the need arises.

My two links will tell you all you need to know.

It's not painful usually just a bit uncomfortable, so take something like paracetamol an hour before hand.

There sometimes is an increase in flow and cramping which are easily controlled by the above.

I would recomend one because they are 98-99% safe without all the hormonal problems.

If you've had an 'internal' before it's certainly no worse than that.
