Does your period hurt?!

Question: When you get your period does it hurt? When you get it, should you use tampons or pads? I would be more comfortable if only girls could answer this. I'm only 11 so.. when would I get it? My mom got hers when she was 14 and a half.

Girls start their periods at different ages in their lives. Some have been known to start as early as 9 and others have been late bloomers and did not start till they were 17. It is stricktly decided by the hormone levels in your body.

Do periods hurt? Depends on your definition of hurt. There can be abdominal cramping almost like you need to go to the bathroom and can't go. There can be headaches and fluid retention that causes you to gain weight once a month. And your temper can flare uncontrollably. Remember I said "can" not will. Different girls react to periods in different ways.

At your age, and until you are old enough to have a sex life, I recommend using pads. They make them super thin now and you hardly know they are there. Inserting objects at such a young age can add to the discomfort of the periods.

Don't listen to all the old wifes tales such as you can't take a bath while you are on your period. You can bathe and should. Just remember not to sit in really hot water because it will make the blood flow more heavily. Cold water or cold showers can cause the cramping to be worse.

The two websites below can give you a lot of information to help prepare you for the big day. And don't forget, talk to your mom - they start preparing for this talk with their daughters from the day the baby is born.

Good Luck

the first and second day is the worst :(

It doesnt hurt really. Its a pain to get, aka guys are lucky. But a period itself dont hurt but the sideeffects, such as cramps, arent fun, even though i dont get cramps i have heard they hurt! Pads are better at first as long as you use them right, its kinda self-explanitory in reality. But tampons can be un-comfortable! Since your mom didnt start until she was 14-ish i wouldnt worry about it yet, but if you would like, carry some pads with you just in case.

well, if ur following in her genetics, and if u are kind small or skinny, (no offense...), then u'll proabaly get it when ur 14 or so too. cuz ur body has to have enough body fat to be able to have a period. and no it doesn't hurt at all, though it's possible to get lots of cramps. tampons are harder to start out in the beginning i personally think, try pads first, they are easier. u could try talking to ur mom if your nervous or anything, but dont worry about it. =]

You would probaly get it when your mom got hers.So you would probably get it around and a half like your mom.Don't worry I am and I haven't got mine yet.My mom got hers when she was around 13.So hope I helped!Bye!

:)

heavy period= annoying
cramps= PAIN

It's good to ask questions so you will be prepared for your body chainging. No it doesn't hurt just because it's blodd it's doesn't, it's just the lining of the womb shedding. Sometimes women get stomach aches during their periods but that's all. The blood coming down doesn't hurt at all.

I'd recommend using pads. Tampons can be a little uncomfortable for anyone especially if you haven't even had sexual intercourse yet. So pads are the best thing to use.

Sometimes it's genetic so you may get your periods roughly around the same time as your mum, I did.

But whenver you get it don't worry! You can find out all the info you need and there's nothing to be worried about.

ps: Yes, depending on how light or heavy it is you get it from 3 - 8 days in a month. Ity's usually at the same time although it may be irregular to begin with. When girls first start thir periods, the first period you get will be very light. It's like your body eases you into it gently.

Buy some pads or have some of your mom's handy incase you start. When I was your age I was also a bit worried about it, but blieve me it's nothing to worry about!

you usually get it from 5-7 days a month, sometimes more sometimes less. my FIRST period lasted 12 days!!! i used pads the first time, but tampons can be useful because you can go swimming on your period if you use one!! but its important that you know how to use it, so ask your mum to show you how. my mum got it when she was 16 and i got mine when i was 11. so you'll probably get yours soon because this generation seems to be getting earlier!!!

they can sometimes hurt because of cramps, but you can take pills for that =)

when you first get you period you may have cramps which can hurt. for the first time you should use pads and then after you've had it for a while you could try tampons. you probably will get it around 14 and a half but it is different for everyone. you should talk to your mom about getting your period even though it may be awkward she can help you better then us at yahoo answers can. you can also check out beinggirl.com for more information. i hoped this helped.
