I just had a tubal ligation.......?!

Question: And found out that instead of cutting my tubes, my Dr. just tied them off. Is this as effective?

By "tying them off" do you mean that he clamped them? This is a more readily used form of BTL, and is roughly as effective. However, it is not unheard of for one of those clamps to come undone. Since the fallopian tube is only crimped as opposed to completely severed, then the chance of pregnancy in an instance of clamp-release is much higher than if he'd actually TIED (i.e., cut, cauterized and tied the cut ends shut) the tubes.

So make sure of the method before you get yourself into a lather over it. While clamps are less effective, your overall chance of unplanned pregnancy still falls into about the 1-2% range.

Are you sure? Don't they cut them and then tie them? Yes, I think that ought to work.

Yes, it is just as effective. Nothing is able to penetrate the unbreakable knot =D
It's pretty much the same thing, prevents anything from being able to pass by. Dont' worry about it.

it is effective, but there is still a chance they could come untied. i have had 4 friends that had theirs tied for years and found out they was pregnant. one of my friends also happened to be my sister in law. so it is not 100%.

Yes, tieing them off cuts the blood supply and the ends will die and fall away from each other...........

It is less likely that you will get pregnant and yes they can come loose. Did you get them clipped and tied or just tied? If just tied, there is a greater chance of you getting pregnant is they come loose. If you had them cut and tied, it's less likely because of the huge gap in the tubes. But check with your doctor. I don't see them being most likely to come loose when you just had it done. Maybe down the road some years.
