Will the doctor have to tell my mother i had a miscarriage?!

Question: i'm 16 and i'll be 17 in August. and i think i just had a miscarriage. i say this because i had been having unprotected sex and when i typed my symptoms in on the internet, websites on miscarriage were all that came up.
i had back pain and abdominal pain and heavy bleeding really bad the first day which was the 20th of january and it still hasn't completly stopped today which is the 26th of january. the pain has stopped, but not the bleeding.
i have a doctors appointment on the 29th and i want to mention this to my doctor but my mother has already told me if she ever finds out i'm having sex i will get kicked out of her house like my two older sisters did. will the doctor have to tell her? or should i just go to a teen clinic or something? HELP!

First off, I'm not here to judge you. Your decisions are your decisions and I respect that. Second, it is possible to have a miscarriage. Actually, a lot of pregnancies are aborted early on before the woman even knows she is pregnant. You sound like you are having a miscarriage by the signs you are telling me. If this period is a lot heavier than it normally is, then I would say it is very likely. Now, next thing: if this occured during your regular period (the time you were scheduled to have your period) then you probably do not need any other medical attention. Your body will naturally remove the products of pregnancy. Your period would only be about 14-16 days after conception. It takes 7 days for the fertilized egg to implant so therefore, the embryo wasn't attached very well to the wall of the uterus. There should be no attachments remaining. In fact, you won't even know there was anything there. However, if you have missed a period or two and are now bleeding this heavily, you will probably need a D &C. This is where they dilate your cervix and manually scrape your uterus to make sure everything was removed. If not, you can get a serious infection. Lastly, doctors and nurses are required BY LAW to keep this information confidential. I would remind them of that when you visit. They will not have to tell your mother anything. Just remember though that you are part of her insurance and if you have to have a procedure like a D&C then she will know about it because it will be on her statements from the insurance company. She won't know anything if you just discuss this with your doctor during the exam. I encourage you to speak with them about this. Good luck!

wow. all i can say is wow. I do have something else to say though. by law, the doctor is supposed to tell ur mother about this unless u tell him/her not to.

Under confidentiality laws, technically, the doctor cannot tell your mother anything you don't want him or her to. That being said however, if you end up needing a medical procedure (such as a D&C to clean out your uterus), the doctor may need to explain why the procedure was performed.

If you KNEW you were going to get sacked if you were having sex, then WHY did you do it???? I just cannot have any compassion for stupidity.

Your doctor can't tell your mother. If he/she does that violates confidentiality laws/HIPPA.

Come on people. The mother has a RIGHT to know. The child is 16. Needs medical attention. Who do you think will be paying for that medical attention? The parents.

That CHILD gains her confidentiality rights when she turns 18. Until then the mother should be notified.

Kid, your MOM apparently laid down the rules pretty clearly and enforced them pretty consistently...

Sounds like you need to start making arrangements on new living quarters. OR, you could TRY and communicate with your MOM.

Parents want whats best for their kids and sometimes we try to FORCE our kids to make wise choices.

Talk to your Mom.

Certain places wont tell like the health department. where i live theres a place called the Pregnancy Center. everything there is confidential. you cant even bring the babys father into the room. you can ask them not to. my pediatrics told my mother my sister was prego. but im glad she did. but the only reason she told was because they told my sister then she said that her and my mom needed to come back later after she got off work since i had driven us there. but my mom called. if she had a miscarriage i dont think she would tell. just ask her not too and explain to your doctor and tell them you`ll tell her when the time is right.
