Pregnancy test invalid after 6 weeks?!

Question: My period is almost 3 months late, but I show no signs of pregnancy. After my period being one month late I took four pregnancy tests and they all came back negative. My friend told me that after a woman is pregnant for 6 weeks, pregnancy tests won't come up positive. Is this true?

I think that my period is messed up because I got off of birth control pills 4 months ago (I had my period right after I got off, but I haven't had it since.) My period has always been irregular, but I'm still a bit worried. My boyfriend and I did have unprotected sex.

I have gained 4 pounds in the last month and I vomited once after I ate a Hani Pita. Other than that, I feel nothing is different.

When I was on birth control, I believe that I missed a day because I ended a day later than I was supposed to. Also, I was taking them at weird times.

So ultimately, my question is: are pregnancy tests I took 1-2 months after my missed invalid because I took it so late?

You will continue to have positive pregnancy tests throughout your pregnancy. As for you, if you have had that many negative tests I would believe them.

Once you stop taking the pill it is not abnormal to miss several periods in a row and it is not unhealthy. Talk to your doctor. To stay perfectly healthy young women only need to really have periods about 3 times a year.

I won't even tell you what you already know, that having unprotected sex is foolish in this day and time. Forget about pregnancy, there are so many other reasons to not risk it. Save the unprotected sex for after you are marriage and in a totally monogamous relationship.

Good Luck

Well you could be preggy but also you missed a dose of birth control which can throw off your whole body including your period and what not. It has happened to me several times and i had false alarms.

Testing too early after the missed period may give a false negative report. But the test stays positive once it becomes positive throughout pregnancy.
so taking a test again will clear your doubts now.

no, you can try to use the pregnancy test again, use it with your first urine in the morning. or see your doctor

At some point your body does stop producing the pregnancy hormone, but not that soon.

Do you have any other pregnancy signs:

weakness, extreme fatigue, dizziness, cravings, veins on your boobs like spider veins?

I think your body is just messed up from birth control pills.

You can go for a simple blood test that will determine if you are pregnant or not.

I don't think you are, but it's always better to make sure.

See if there is a planned parenthood near you.

Best wishes to you.

urine pregnancy tests test the amount of "pregnancy" hormones in your urine. if the hormones are high, it's a definite indication of pregnancy. these hormones are produced throughout the duration of pregnancy, therefore the tests are valid throughout.

going off birth control pills plays havoc with your hormones. it's almost like going back to your adolescent years with peaks and lows for a little while until you even out and go into your natural rhythm.
if you are worried about pregnancy, a doctor will be able to confirm your situation with a simple blood test.

:)

Pregnancy test will still show up positive after six weeks if you are pregnant, also some home pregnancy test do not pick up the hormon HPT. Most are 99% accurate but only if the hCG levels are high enough to be detected. Best to see doctor for bloods.

Your body doesn't stop producing the pregnancy hormone (betaHCG) until you are no longer pregnant therefore a pregnancy test is valid throughout the duration of your pregnancy.

Once the test is positive it stays positive. Either go by clinic or your doctor and ask for blood pregnancy. It is called a HCG level. Then u will know for sure. Good Luck
