Anyone else had this happen?!

Question: The string broke off my tampon when trying to take it out today and after 3 hours trying to retrieve it, with no success, I had to go to the hospital to have it removed. I was so embarrassed and stressed, and don't know if I will ever be able to use tampax again!

I have never had the string break on me, but I did get one stuck (I used and applicater and it took the string back inside with it) I was only 14. Like you I tried for hours to get it out myself, including using tweezers. Then (and I know this is going to sound so wrong) but my mum had a go at trying to get it, she couldnt either. So our last resort was to go to the hospital. It was mortifying, but they got it out in seconds (with the help of the speculum). Since then I have been much more careful, but I carried on using tampons as they are more convinient for me.
Anyway, you should definately contact the manufacturer and make a complaint. Tampons are designed to withstand a lot of tension and shouldnt just break like that.
Good luck and remember your not the only one lol :)

no, thats never happened to me. i sympathise with your embarrassment though

dont buy cheap ones from the 99p shop!

I have had that happen but i have never had to go to the Hospital

lol.........wow

Yes it does happen if you leave it in too long, had to use a mirror to get it out .

hi i too have had that happen wait for your next period and relax you'l be ok if your tense it will hurt so take a bath
although its embarrassing its normal trust me ... better you got it out than left it

no haven't heard of that before. sorry to hear that - can't have been pleasant. i'd write to the company though and tell them as this shouldn't happen. also change brands.

oh no! you poor thing. never heard of that happening before. maybe you shouldnt use them again then

Nope. I use the DivaCup, which is a menstrual cup - no worries.

I have never heard of that happening and, to be honest, I'm surprised you weren't able to get the thing yourself. It's not a never-ending void up there...

Glad it worked out for you, though - and I completely understand your fear of tampons now. Good luck,

You poor thing! Evil tampax, lol!

yeah that happened to one of my friends
just use pads, or keep using tampons but if that happens again, just use tweezers to get it out.

Oh my Gawd - how embarrassing. On a good note. You did the right thing going the Hospital as taking this dilemma to the extreme - it can kill - toxic shock syndrome! Stick to towels!l

i feel bad for u

If it genuinely WAS tampax, you should contact the company and complain, the last thing you need is to risk toxic shock!!!

If it wasn't but it was a reputable brand, still contact them!

they should be made to be able to resist the normal range of pull generated by your pc muscles!

never had it happen but there is directions on the box for if that happens did you try that before you went to the er
don't be scared of using them the chance of the string coming off again is very slim i us Playtex and never have had a problem

Don't worry about it! I'm sure that it was embarrassing for you but I can tell you, the hospital sees it all the time. Even in the doctor's office we saw it quite a bit. Be glad (I know that the hospital staff were) that you realised it quickly. We have seen women who had forgotten that they had one in until they started smelling pretty foul and had major amounts of discharge. They had no idea that they still had a tampon in from a couple of weeks ago.
I know it's embarrassing but it is really much more common than anyone realises. It's just not something people talk about around a cup of coffee!
Take care!

You did the right thing by going to hospital, it is embarrassment that stops some girls from getting it sorted & the results of infection can be very serious.

god, i was just about to buy tampax
thank you

That's awful. I've never had that happen before, but if I were you I wouldn't give up on tampons. If it ever happens again try taking a hot bath. The tampon should soak up the water and you should be able to slide it out easily with your fingers.

I had that happen but I was able to get it out myself. I do not think I would have been able to go to the hospital, I give you a lot of credit.

jeepers, never happen to me before.....

Hi

Try not to worry about it, the hospital will have seen it many times before and will again in the future.

Despite what others here say, it is quite a common thing that does happen to many women, though I'm lucky that it hasn't happened to me.

All I can suggest is that you wait until next month and try again, make sure you give the string a good tug before you use the tampon, just to reassure yourself that all is well and connected where it should be and that it won't happen again.

From time to time it is happening, one friend of mine had the same problem about 5 times, but she still using tampax..... no reasons to be embarrassed about it indeed, as it's not your fault that it happened.
