If birth control is 99.9% effective, why so many unwanted pregnancies?!

Question: It seems that pregnacy is generally very avoidable (with the exception of rape). Why are their so many "unwanted" pregnancies?

Answers: It seems that pregnacy is generally very avoidable (with the exception of rape). Why are their so many "unwanted" pregnancies?

the people who use birth control pills are not the ones contributing most of the unwanted pregnancies... it is the people who think they can beat the odds by using absolutely nothing..
according to the stats, only one out of a hundred people using bc pills get pregnant in a year....verses 85 out of a hundred who don't

because of those people who use no type of birth control

well, for the under 18 crowd, many are uninformed,or they believe the many myths that circulate. They may also be too afraid of what they think their parents will do if they talk to them about it, yet they can't aquire anything prescription-wise w/o parental consent, leaving them with condoms as the only option. And of course those have a pretty high failure rate. Some may be embarrassed even to buy condoms, maybe they fear they'll be seen by someone who knows the parents who might squeal on them.

Some women who take the pill may unintentionally miss one or 2, which raises the chance of failure. And sometimes for reasons beyond anyone's control, a hormonal method may fail. Some women just seem immune to certain types.
Also ,at least in America, many women may not even be able to afford any type of remedy, let alone the cost of going to the doc. to get a prescription.
Plus they make it such a b*tch to get ahold of emergency contraception.
And many people, especially young people are just simply unknowledgable about such things. Like in my state - MS, they don;t offer sex education, yet we have one of the highest teen birth rates in the country :(.

ETA: I think if we offered sex ed. more widely, and made hormonal B/C less expensive, and more readily available, this would go a long way, IMO.
