Help me with my period? ??!

Question: So I'm 13, going on 14 in march. i got my first period October 7 2007. It was normal, around 6 days, starting off light and getting heavier during it and trailing off. The second one was 36 days later and the same. My 3rd period was again exactly 36 days later, but a lot lighter than the other 2. I got my 4th one today, except 32 days earlier, and it's the first day and already pretty heavy. Medium/heavy-ish. I've been pretty light the first day and then heavy the second, and i'm already cramping to the point it's bothering me and i'm not sure why it's doing this.

Is it just adjusting or something?

It's very common to be irregular- even into your twenties! Don't worry about it; you're fine. Just take some Motrin to ease the cramping pain. It's also common to suddenly get a new symptom you've never had before, like diarrhea, bloating, cramps, etc.

Here are some helpful tips:

-"If flow is heavy enough that a super-absorbent pad is soaked in less than a few hours, on more than one occasion, I advise consulting your physician. If, during more than one period, you are finding it impossible to go more than two hours without changing a super-absorbent pad, the flow is heavy enough to warrant medical attention. In such cases, I generally order a blood test to see if anemia may be developing. "
-"Normal menstrual periods last for three to seven days; 10 days or longer is definitely too long. If just one period lasts for 9 to 10 days, and periods are at least 21 days apart, I don't think a visit to the doctor is necessarily in order. Rarely, the first (or only) symptom of a blood disorder, such as a clotting disorder, is a period that just doesn't stop. Many other disorders, including some related to pregnancy, genital tract abnormalities or infections, and endocrinological disorders, can cause lengthy periods. My guideline is that, if a period lasts longer than 12 days, it's time to see the doctor."
-"....it is not uncommon for girls to miss periods during the first two years after menarche, when the cycle is still stabilizing."

That is normal for your first menstrual cycles. They are usually irregular during this time. During my first year (age 13) they were so irregular that I would sometimes skip a month or come on twice in one month.

Probably, yes. Take Ibuprofen and go get a warm water bottle. lay on the couch with it. Continue making monthly notes. Good thing you are paying attention.

people tell me for like the first two years or so of having your period it has to regulate. sometimes you might not get them for awhile and then you might get double in the same month. its got to adjust to these new changes. ive had mine since '06 and its still really really wackyyy.
but no worries girl you are finee :)

It's totally normal for it to vary in all aspects. Periods can vary based on stress or your body changing or anything. I would say not to worry about it at all unless it doesn't come at all, stays heavy for more than a week, or is really spotty.
I'm 19 and have had mine since I was 13, and it's hardly ever been consistent. I also have really inconsistent cramps. I will get them only sometimes, and they come for me 2 weeks before my period. Take some pain reliever, they should be over in a day or so. So, no worries! Good luck!

Oh gosh hunny...I'm 23 and mine is STILL all messed up! hehe Just go to Wal-Mart, buy a heating pad and some tylenol. It will take a while for them to become regular for you. Mine would last 13 days and I'd get it every 20 days! Try talking to your mom about it...I'm sure she'll have great advice for you...and it makes her feel important b/c you asked HER! Good luck with that!

Right on, honey. Your hormone levels will always fluctuate somewhat from one month to the next but they tend to do it more when you are first starting to menstruate. Some girls get a first period then none at all for several months and may be hit or miss for most of a year before getting into a regular schedule. These are the reasons you have your own heating pad or hot water bottle and some midol on hand. I found that masturbating to orgasm when i had cramps helped. I almost said having sex but you are about 6 years too young for that.

Your period will probably be a roller coaster ride for the rest of your womanly years. Just try not to pay any attention to it unless you haven't noticed anything for a few months. Your stressing over it just adds to it's irregularity.

Also, with out sounding to motherly, and I know you just want easy answers, but maybe your a little to young to be asking these kinds of questions online, especially with your picture and everything. There's just a lot of crazy's out there. Good luck, and as embarrassed as you might be, maybe you could try asking a female you know these types of questions.
