What did women use before the invention of the tampon?!

Question: did they just stuff a rag in there ? lol

Answers: did they just stuff a rag in there ? lol

Before tampons, women used (and still use) sanitary napkins. Before that, they used rags. Thus the term, "She's on the rag."

Addition: I'm actually surprised at the number of people who didn't know that rags were used before sanitary napkins (pads) were around. Only a few people knew that the term "on the rag" applies to this question.

Feminine pads, like Always.

PADS! no i dont think they'd stuff some uknown rag up their cooch...!!! but did you know tampons were first used for bullet wounds?

taper candles wrapped with cotton gauze

A pad.

basically a regular pad like we use now...but of course ours have more comfort and protection

probebly.Or maybe nothing in the really really really really really old days.

technically yes. In early times before the invention of feminine hygiene products woman would use rags, material...anything to soak it up, lol

Cloth

Pads and before that they really did use rags. Not stuffed up in there but like a pad.

good question....im sure they had some kind of concoction

Yes, they did use rags. They didn't "stuff" them in there, but where do you think the expression "on the rag" came from?

yeah probably a rag...thats why it is called being on the "rag"

Umm pads?

The Princess is right, but even before that, my grandma usedd to tell me of days when they used rags...like real rags.
Sorry, that's gross but true!

Actually pads have been around longer than tampons. I hear women used pads made of fabric and re-washed them at one time. Really gross is wondering what cave women did. Ekk

a sock!!!

i wouldnt know, but prolly just stuff their pants with napkins or tissus to absorb the menstrutal flow, sort of like asanitary pad

Well....in Egyptian times, apparently papyrus like what they used to write on!
and then cloth and stuff.
I read that on the side of a tampon box!

hmm.. i don't know. OoO but thanks for reminding me I have to go change my tampon! bye.

pads, but why the hell do yuo wanna know?

My granny used old rags and towels, no lie. Kinda like cloth diapers. Thank God that I don't live way back then. :D

Actually they did use rags but only to protect their panties. Havent u seen that Always commercial in Africa of the girl that has to miss school bcuz she has her period and no adequate protection? In some unidustrialzed countrys they have to deal w these things even in this modern age

Probably nothing or local folage. I know when my grandfather was in WWII, some of the isalnd natives they would visit, nothing was used or local plant/leaves were used.

LOOOOOOOOOOL "did they just stuff a rag in there" im sure ur gna get complaints from the girls !!!!!!!!! JOKER

Like a diaper.

paper, dummy!

They didn't have that kind of problem.

a wooden stick

No, they just rode around on sheep

They just put a bucket underneath them like we do for ceiling leaks..

DUH!
