Endometriosis, endoscopy sceduled. Ladies please ...help?!

Question: I want to hear about your experiences with endoscopy if you have had one. I have one sceduled this week to find out if I have endometriosis.

I'm scared, and worried about the whole procedure and everything involved....
I just want to hear about different experiences.
Did it help?
Would you go through it again? Worth it?

Thanks, so much!

I have had 4 laparoscopies (the technical name for endoscopy of the abdomen such as to check for endometriosis) in the past 10 years to treat my endometriosis. The first to diagnose the disease, and the other 3 to check the status of my endometriosis.

It takes the doctor about 30 to 60 minutes to do and they will remove as much of the tissue that causes endometriosis as they can. Sometimes it can take longer than 30 to 60 minutes to remove what is found because of the area that it sits in.

Because of this it can take longer than 1-2 weeks (the average time) to recover from laparoscopy.

I would rather have laparoscopy for any surgery involving the abdomen if I can because of the smaller size incisions and the recovery overall is easier even with how much work may be done to remove what endometriosis is found.

Yes, the laparoscopy is worth it to get done. At this time laparoscopy is the only way to definitively diagnose endometriosis.

Each of my laparoscopies along with medication (I have to have medication too because of the way my body deals with the disease) has been very helpful to trying to keep it in check.

One thing that I recommend to others that are having laparoscopic surgery for the first time is to make sure that they eat lightly for the next several weeks because all that area around the stomach will be sensitive (learned this the hard way when I craved a pizza and found I couldn't eat it the way I thought I could).

It is very understandable to be nervous about having surgery so if you would like to talk some more about this please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.
