Ok... I will approach this question respecting the fact that you don't want to see a doctor.

I would assume (if we are talking about red blood here, not tarry black blood) that you most likely have hemorrhoids. They would most certainly cause you to have pain while having a bowel movement, and since you go so infrequently your stools are most likely hard which would only further aggravate them. They usually don't go away unless you see a doctor (which would be simple procedure at this point.)

You need to increase your fiber intake. Seriously. Fiber will not bind you up. It will do exactly the opposite (fiber will only cause you issues if you do not maintain a decent fluid intake.) If you can't/don't want to eat high fiber foods, stick to one of the powders. (I personally do not suggest the pills, because if you do not drink them with at good dose of water they can cause issues for some people. You avoid this a bit with the powders because you're mixing them - with water. If you go with the chewable tablets, I still recommend drinking a glass of something with them for hydration purposes. Benefiber is great because you can mix it in food, and it is taste free. It will settle in a glass if you don't drink it in a few minutes though.) Second, increase your fluid intake every day. The 8 glasses of day concept has been debunked, but if you aren't drinking that kind of volume everyday its good to shoot for. Drinking water will help keep you hydrated. You may also want to try "activa" or something similar. Maybe people I know who've tried it find that it does "regulate them" since it basically acts as a laxative for them.

The idea that you're body can build up pounds of feces in your intestines is a myth, and has never ever been proven true. (In fact, the cells of your intestine get replaced every single day, so the idea of that even being possible is absurd.) If you find bowel movements uncomfortable, I would not recommend herbal cleansers. Not only will you find yourself in significant pain, but it will be something not easily fixed and you'll have re-enforced the idea that I assume you already have - bowel movements are painful and I will avoid them as much as possible.

If you have problems with hard stools you may want to consider an occasional small enema. Most drug stores still stock the small bulb type, or the hanging bag kind. A small amount of water would help soften some of the stool (the amount of water would depend on how hard we are talking about) and make it easier to pass. This is NOT something you want to get in the habit of doing everyday, as it can take away from muscle tone. It could however make it less of a painful experience for you.. and help you get back on a schedule thats healthy (and subside some of your fears.)

Do try to see a doctor though... the more you put it off the most problems you are going to have when you finally do. :) If you're scared, you can just try and bring it up with your normal doctor. If its just hemorrhoids, they can tell you right away and you won't have to be scared anymore.

eat more fiber, drink more water.

seems serious if its still happening after years.go to the doctor or whatever it is it will get worse

Fiber and prunes, works for me!

Drink a lot of juice, it will help with the poop flow, apple juice is good and effective.

oh dear. My first thought was constipation! fiber fiber fiber!
But you only poo once a week thats sided with blood and pain?

You seriously need to get checked out. That isnt normal. Think about how your body suffering because you're too embarrassed and scared.
Its harsh, but suck it up and go to the doctors.

Try going to a health food store and buying a colon cleanser. You take it orally, and it will help you poo. The first few days, it may be hard for you and painful, but.... if you can get past the pain, it will help get your colon back in shape and you won't have difficulty anymore. What happens is, when your colon gets out of shape, poo builds up in your colon, and stretches your colon out. Your colon get used to having such big poo in there, and needs to expel it several days in a row to get back into shape just like any other muscle. Good luck! You need to do this because if you don't you are at a great risk for all kinds of health problems, including colon cancer.

You might not like the answer, but I think you need to get it check out. it could be something serious, and you will want to get it taken care of. Poo once a week is really not normal.

Are you drinking 8 glasses of water a day?
Do you eat fruit and vegetables?
Have you tried Metamucil or another fiber therapy?
You need to take better care of yourself, and eat and drink a health amount of each of the above things.
It should make a difference. Going poo only once a week in like keeping poison in you system.

Activia yogart
Water
fiber

actually fiber is probably the best thing for you. it won't make it worse. when I was in college I was so badly bloated i seriously thought I was either pregnant or had some bad healt problem. i apparently was constipated and my doctor told me to take fiber. and sure enough after few weeks, all was back to normal.

you shouldn't be afraid to go to the doctor. that is what they are therer for.

sometimes eating a balanced diet low in fat with plenty of vegetables and fruits and drinking more water would help. For constipation, I found out PRUNE JUICE is the BEST!

add:
Going once or twice a week could cause colon cancer! This is serious. Getting it checked out would be the best, and don't be shy, doctors see it every day, so it's nothing new to them.
