I'm so glad I saw your questions b/c I can share my experience w/you. My sister has suffered from heart palpitations since she was 12. She is now 33 has a husband and 3 young kids (which she was concerned about having in the first place b/c of this). She's gone to several specialists through-out the years and was only once told to go on meds. She didn't do so however, because of all of the contra -indications that were relevant in her case, which she thought out-weighed the benefits. Pretty much, bottom line is that it's something she has to live with and nobody really knows why this happens in some people. However it really doesn't affect her life in general, except for when she gets what we call the "attacks" where her heart starts to palpitate wildly, race, out of breath and feels like she just ran the marathon - it pretty much feels like a heart attack - it was really scarry the first time she ever got one and then just recently she got another one that was very, very strong - the strongest ever - but the doctor (and she figured this out too) said that it was probably b/c she was under a lot of stress and a lot was happening...this is usually what will onset it. Otherwise, she doesn't live any differently from a person without this issue. She just needs to just stay away from caffeine containing stuff, like coffee (obviously), coke and any other caffeine containing soft-drink, ice-teas especially and chocolate and try to live a low-stress life (good luck with that one right?). I hope everything works out for your daughter and please get all the medical help you need but also don't despair...it's probably not life threatening and as we learned, more common than one thinks.

I'm no doctor, but I've heard a little about this:
Someone that young with palpations could be quite serious. Heart problems can lead to death (including sudden death syndrome) or development issues, so you really don't want to mess around, at all.

There are a number of medications that can help with that condition that have few if any side effects. Listen to what your doctor has to say, because this is an area where traditional, western medicine does very well.

Arrythmia's and murmurs in females are relatively common.

If you want to try herbs along side regular drug therapy, look to those that help currculation and heart rythum, (i.e. Gingko). They might help, if only a little.
