Females: What kind of birth control do you prefer?!

Question: Does it work good? what are the pros and cons?

Answers: Does it work good? what are the pros and cons?

I use the NuvaRing, and love it. It is much easier to use than the pill because I don't have to remember it every day, and I don't even notice that it's in. I have noticed that I have slightly more discharge than when I didn't use it, but not enough to be a problem. I have had it pop out a couple of times during sex, but it wasn't a big deal and I popped it right back in. I also use the vaginal contraceptive film (a spermicide) as a back-up method. I tried the jelly and it was way too messy, and I figure the foam will be the same. The film isn't messy at all. I've also used condoms without any problems. Those are the best defense against STDs so even if you're on another form of birth control, a condom is the best choice if you are unfamiliar with your partner's sexual history.

Having my tubes tied.
Pros=no baby
cons=permanent (not a con for me)

I love the Depo injection. It lasts for three months at a time, and you don't have to worry about it. But DON'T be late getting your next injection, otherwise it's a hassle.

I took the pill for about 7 years, and that worked just fine, except that it eventually started making me sick to my stomach. But it doesn't do that to most people. You just have to remember to take it!!

the shot... depo... no serious side effects... u dont have to remember to take it everyday... just every 3 months

I use to use Ortho-tri cyclen but it was too high of a dosage and it made me really sensative so i was switched to Ortho-tri cyclen LO and it is awesome!! i am 26 an i have been on the pill since i was 18. i will say please try an stay away from trinessa the genaric brand of ortho tri cyclen they told me it was the same thing at the pharmacy an my GYN said they are not.
Goodluck

I have the Mirena IUD. I love it.

Pros.........No more heavy painful periods. Nothing to think about .

Cons........Pretty expensive if not covered under your insurance.....Spotting for 6 months after having it placed. You need to have a child and in a monogamous relationship.

I am on the IUD Mirena. I love it!

I have tried just about everything out there. This just fit best for me. I have two kids, and I don't want any more right now. They prefer you have had at least one kid before getting it. It is the most effective form on the market (99.9%) and is good for up to 5 years. You can have it removed earlier if you want to. It has to be inserted. My only side effect is not having a period!

My only recommendation outside of that would be to avoid the shot Depo Provera. I was miserable the entire time I was on it. I gained a lot of weight (over 40 lbs), had migraines, depression, lost a lot of hair, my skin broke out, and I lost my sex drive. I know everyone responds differently to birth control, but up to 50% of all users notice significant weight gain on Depo. Just something to keep in mind.

the pill-
+ve -easy to get and helps control periods (you can take 2 packs back to back and skip a period occasionally if you need to), makes periods less painful, bigger boobs can be side effect
-ve - must remember to take daily and skipping one can casue pregnancy, no protection from STIs, weight gain can be side effect

condoms
+ve - can buy from a shop - no need to see a dr, protection from sti's, makes sex a bit 'tidyier' by keeping c*m in one place
-ve a bit like doing a carrier bag, interups sex sometimes, smells like rubber!

iud
+ve put it in and forget it
-ve needs to be fitted by dr - better after pregnancy - easyier to fit, stis

withdrawal
+ve - easy
-ve - unreliable, sti's

im on the pill - its great. The fact that it has now been proven to significantly reduce the risk of getting cerical cancer is a great added bonus
but condoms are the only sti proof method.

I've been on the pill for seven years and I love it! I originally went on to manage my crazy periods, so the birth control is more of a helpful side effect. I take Yasmin, which is great for me, but everyone is different. That's why there are so many brands of pill on the market!

I love Ortho Tri Cyclene Lo.

It's a lower amount of hormones then the regular version so not as much PMS, mood swings, etc. Also, you know exactly to the day, even time of day you will start your period - every 28 days. It's very light and quick. Sometimes I don't even have to wear a tampon.
