Birth Control.?!

Question: I take Ortho Tri Cyclon Lo and last month I had my period from Jan 5 -10. This was the last week of my active pills. I started taking the inactive pills on the 13th, but I didn't have my period.
When I went to the doctor for an exam she had asked if I had anything weird happen and I told her of that and she said that it was because I took one of my pills late, which I did.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Should I have still gotten my period during the inactive pills?

Birth control pills are ment to be taken the SAME time EVERY day... if they are not they can cause strange things to happen... also, depending on how long you've been on birth control your cycle may not be normal... Starting, stopping, or missing your pills will cause your periods to not be normal. That is totally normal to miss your period on the inactive pills if you had your period the week before... It takes normally 3 months for pills to get your cycles normal... and it can take longer, and of course shorter... In addition, if you just started your pills... you should be using an additional form of birth control ie: condoms for the first month until your body gets the hormones going through your blood and totally blocking ovulation

While I've heard of skipping pills causing SPOTTING, I've never heard of missing one by a couple of hours causing a full 5-day-long period. THAT is odd, even on the formulation you're on.

If it happens again, I'd suggest requesting that you be changed to another formulation...preferably one with only one chemical all month long (called a mono-phasic pill).

While the pill is advised to be taken at the same time every single day, it also is slightly forgiving toward those who miss by a couple of hours. It's when you skip several days in a stretch that you tend to have issues.

Good luck.
