Some girls' cycles are really sensitive, so stress can cause a missed period. I've also heard that extreme changes in diet & extremely increased physical activity can do it for some people.

There's also the "sister-effect" (I just made up that term, I don't know what it's really called), where if you are in regular close contact with other women (like sisters, bf's, co-workers, etc), your cycles may actually affect each other's. (They tend to occur closer & closer together!) Some people may scoff at this, but I believe it's true.

Others of us always have screwed-up cycles (a few months w/o one, then two within the same month, then none for another six months...etc)- my doctor tells me it's probably due to a slight hormone imbalance (ie. too much testosterone, not enough estrogen, etc.)- nothing to worry about.

Going on or off birth control pills is a sure-fire way to screw it up. Sometimes ovarian cysts can have an effect like this, but it COULD be something more serious... If you haven't made any changes in diet, medication, etc, and if you've always been regular, it is something I'd definitely look into.

Hope that helps!

if you are over 40.. it could be an early menapause.
if you're around 13 or 14.. id suggest a doctor

How sure are you that you're not pregnant. It could be horomonal problems. Birth control can take away your period. Once I got on depo provera and didn't get my period for an entire YEAR with one injection. Other than that, working out too hard and too much can cause an irregular period, as well as stress.

One of my friends had an eating disorder last year. She missed her period a lot. That could be the cause of it. If it isn't go to a doctor.

are you a cheerleader or a gymnast?

if so...they sometimes only get
their's every 4 months
