Ladies.....?!

Question: can anyone give me some advise please.
Had a letter from my GP saying my last smear test was in 1998, and my next one due was in 2001. Im sure I have had at least 1 since this time, if not two, but realistically cant remember. However, that means I have missed, 2001, 2004 and 2007. Im about to book my appointment, have I got much to worry about, I cant stop thinking that its wrong and that I have had tests, but they say definately no. After leaving it so long, 10 years since my last one, should I be worried, i cant stop thinking about little problems I have, perhaps even just making them up in my mind coz im now so paranoid that I have missed so many appointments. Im now stressing myself out about making the call.

Im sure everything will be fine. I left my first one for years cos I was scared to go and everything was fine. Mention to your doc that you are sure you've had one since - maybe their records are wrong or perhaps you have a similar name to someone else. Go to your appt and get it over and done with so you can stop stressing!

Dont worry about it, if anything is wrong they will catch it with this smear and treat any problems that may arise (there is no point stressing over something you have no control over).

I just got a letter sayiong I should come and get my first one! Super scared!

Make the call and schedule your appt. if you're that worried. I've had 1 and haven't gone back simply because it was uncomfortable and I don't believe that they're necessary. My mom's never had one and she's 44. lol. Just relax and make the call, I believe this subject is up to interpretation as to how often you should go.

Try not to think about it until you go and get your appointment. That way you don't have to worry when it's unnecessary. Just go and get it done and when it comes back normal, you'll feel relieved! Good luck. :)

it is useless to worry. It's not like something is going to be wrong BECAUSE you have waited so long.

Save the worries for when you really need them, which is hopefully never.

listen, im 33yrs old and i have had 2 children, i only had my first smear test in November!! i know you are supposd to check often but thats how i am, so id say make your appointment and dont worry at all, im sure everything is fine :-)

Give it a rest...

The only thing that will probably happen is the tech will say to you " you know you really should get a yearly test..blah..blah ..blah"

DO NOT WORRY!! Make an appointment, turn up, and put your mind at rest. Your problems are probably getting way out of proportion in your head because your worrying so much. Please just go!

I recently went for one as my stupid doctor misdiagnosed me, and the last one I had was when I was pregnant seven years ago. and my test results were fine. So no, I don't think you have much to worry about, unless you have a condition that needs regular treatment, you should be fine.

Please mention all your concerns to the doctor who does this, as there is no harm in asking questions and even if they can't help you or give you stupid advice, at least your mind will be at ease that it's nothing serious.

It doesn't hurt either, I thought it would and was shivering like mad, but it was 100% fine.

Good luck xx

well think about it - leaving it longer wont make anything better -you cant change that you have missed appointments so go and see if anything is up or not - its best to catch any abnormalities as soon as possable but chances are everything is just fine and it will be just routine and normal :)

Yes us women can get very paranoid and imagine all sorts of things when it comes to this sort of thing. Make your appointment and get it over and done with and you will be fine.

I wouldn't worry until its worth worrying about, so you've missed some years, its not the be all and end all, don't get yourself worked up, and even if you get a positive result the doctors are really good.
i had a positve result 4 years ago, I had to have a biopsy and had to have a smear every 6 months until last summer when I had my last one and it was clear, now I have to have one every 2 years.
Hope this help and really, don't worry.

heya hun, if u are really that worried about the results, and you think you might have something, why not check up the symptoms on the internet? If you're really that worried you should just pick up the phone and dial the number for docs/gum clinic or whatever you are needed at. If docs are gonna say that u havent had tests in them years..they are not going to change their mind! Unless you had something to prove!well, ood luck with the smear, and hope everything goes ok for u!hope i helped!!!xx

hi
Smear tests should be carried out every 3yrs, I am glad you have made an appointment, please go along and get this done, you have nothing to fear, it is a simple procedure that takes 5-10 mins to do, and the reality is , it could save your life,

the trick is to relax and remember it is in your interests to keep healthy , if you tense up you will find it uncomfortable,

there are loads of websites to give you information, I like this one http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_advice...

good luck

Its just a routine check up.
