Has anyone had similar side effects from Mirena IUD?!

Question: I have had it in for about two months now. And it seems I am having like PMS/montly symptoms every two weeks. I will feel crampy, bloated, a little lower back pain, increased nervousness. Lately, I have been having even a little lower abdominal pain, not like cramping. Is this normal adjustment to the IUD?

Because Mirena is a hormone-based IUD these symptoms are probably just your body adjusting to the hormones. I have a non-hormonal IUD but when I talked to my doctor about all the options she said that it can take as much as a year for you body to completely adjust to the IUD, regardless of which version you have.

I had my mirena IUD put in the beginning of Dec. and Ive had similar side effects. I bled the first month I had it and I'm waiting to start my period, but it hasn't come yet. The beginning was terrible and I thought I was going to have to get it removed, but now I love it !!

I have had Mirena for over a year now. I had annoying spotting for the first six months but haven't had any PMS symptoms since getting it. Call your Dr's office and ask them if it is normal.
