Question about condoms and preventing pregnancy (for Adults)?!

Question: How effective are condoms in preventing pregnancy?

Answers: How effective are condoms in preventing pregnancy?

Condoms depend on several things:

1) were they put on correctly? If put on too tightly with no room at the tip they break fairly easily

2) are they the right size? many boys buy sizes too large and they fall off (they are embarrassed to buy the smaller ones), or they bought them too small and snap! they break

3) was it put on at the right time? It must be on before any fluid accumulates at the tip of the penis. That means as soon as he starts to have the erection, on goes the condom

4) how rough is the sex. Even if its the right size, heaviness, etc condoms still break.

For best results against pregnancy combine condom use with foam or jelly, or birth control pills. Condoms under perfect conditions are about 96% effective. In practice, they probably about 80%. And remember,, they don't block all types of STDs, just most of them.

supposed to be 98% effective, supposed to be.

Depends on the type

I agree. they are suppose to be 98 percent effective

Well it is about 97% so 3 out of 100 of them are ineffective Do you want to risk that? Hope this helps!

Condoms are 99% effective. Meaning, that it is very unlikely to get a woman pregnant. Your 1% chance of getting someone pregnant depends. For example, if the condom rips, or for some reason slips off and you ejaculate in the vagina, then it is more likely you will get the girl pregnant. So before wearing a condom, make sure that you check the pouch is not ripped. The way you could tell, is if you put a little bit of pressure in the center you should feel that it has a little air inside and that it is not escaping. Also make sure to check the expiration date! =) Hope that helps!

Used perfectly, they have about a 3% failure rate. With normal use (like it slipping off occasionally, having holes, breaking, not putting it on at first sexual contact) there is a 15-20% failure rate. The best thing you can do is make sure you put the condom on at first sexual contact, store your condoms in a cool, dark place, and check the expiration date. Also, only use a water-based lubricant, as an oil-based like vaseline can degrade the latex. This is a great website that talks about all sorts of birth control. http://www.mjbovo.com/Contracept/

98% apparently.
Read the packet.

Of course, that's only true if you use it right.

To make them more effective, combine them with spermicidal jelly.

Condoms are effective when used correctly. I don't understand how it can be used incorrectly, but evidently 2 or 3, (out of a hundred), men cannot apply a condom correctly. I have come in contact with a man that was so small,( how small was he?), that a condom would not fit but just fall off of his penis. But I don't know if "it couldn't fit" because of size counts as not using a condom correctly.

about 80% if used properly
