I'm 26 and having my first ever battle with....?!
Question: acne. No changes to diet. No changes to daily routine. Trust me, I've thought of it all. I am aware that a side effect of birth control is acne, but also in some instances, it clears it up.
My question: Is there a certain kind of birth control that is best for acne?
Or are all equally effective since they all affect your body in somewhat the same way?
I am going to my local health center for the pills. Does anyone know if those health clinics just have one kind, or can you pick?

Adult onset acne is actually pretty common. Perfect peaches and cream complexion your whole life and then around 25-30, wake up with a pizza for a face. Life is so unfair. I would think they would have every kind you would get a the pharmacy.

There are many different kinds of birth control. You have choices. Some are even known for helping clear up acne. Acne is caused by hormonal imbalances in the body, so the correct pill could help clear up your skin. Talk to your health care provider about your concerns. Good luck.
There are quite a few different kinds of hormones, and everyone reacts differently to each. If one clears up my skin, it doesn't mean it will clear yours up. It might make yours worse. All you can really do is use trial and error. I lucked out that my first pill I took cleared up my skin and helped my cramps. I know a couple of people that had to try three or four before they found the right one for them. Talk to the doctor about what pill is the best option for you. They generally have multiple pills that you can try, but each place is different, so you'll have to ask when you're there. I personally use the NuvaRing instead of taking the pill because it's so much more convenient.
My doctor told me Orthotricyclen was the best for acne. The health clinic I go to only normally has one kind. The only time they had another is when they ran out of the orthotricyclen. They may have the generic of the certain pill they stock, but as far as I know that is all they have.
I went on Ortho-tri cyclyn for mine. Been on it for about 4 months..I keep hearing it gets worse before better..I've been battling it for years. I asked my OB the same question about the pill and she said that they all do the same thing, just all have a different price. Ortho worked for my sis, so thats why I chose it. It do see some good results form it. I also changed my diet since I started seeing a holistic doctor. It turns out that I have a gluten allergy and highly sensitive to some kind of protein found in cows milk...Most people do have these sensitives to these kinds of things and don't know it..So, It was advised that I stay away from dairy and wheat products...I feel your pain :(
Acne is your body's response (for the most part) to hormones and environment. Sometimes your environment changes so subtly you don't even realize that it's occurred. However, if you ARE on the pill (and have started it only recently) then that is your most likely culprit.
If it doesn't clear up, then by all means request to change to a different formulation. There is no one-size-fits-all formulation for everyone, as everyone's body chemistry is different. So you'll just have to try a different type and see if the acne clears up. Often it's just a matter of trial and error to find the pill that best works for YOU.
i take cilest and it does help my acne but it doesnt get rid of it!! i dont think it matters too much which u choose tho! try using sudodrem aswell it works a treat for me!
