Question about periods and pads, tampons ..?!

Question: I only wear tampons for the first two days of my period because the other 4 days my period is very light. Pads are making me really sore. I don't know why-they didn't used to but have for the last couple of years. I have heard of the cup (don't know what it's called) and have heard of pads without all the chemicals and dyes in them. Anyone use either of those things and what is your experience with them?

my mom is getting the cloth pads from the link emily posted. my mom has been looking at them after she got rashes from the bleach in the pads and tampons. http://divacup.com is where you can get the menstrual cup. i dont think the sea sponge tampons would be very comfy tho.... eww.

Just wear tampons on light days too. No big deal.

Here is a link for the pads. They are re-usable like the cups but I read that there is some questions about the cup. This pad is probably the safer way to go.
You are right about the tampons. Never use a tampon on a light day.

good luck.

That is why they make Lite Tampons.
they also have extra thin pads.

The cup works, but it is also very messy. When you have to empty itout, you run the chance of spilling it and such, kinda gross if you ask me.

Toxic Shock Syndrome, is something you get if you wear a tampon too long. i've been using them for YEARS and not once have i gotten sick or heard of anyone i know getting sick. You just have to keep up with changing them every 4 hours or so.
Depending on where the pads make you sore, you could either have to big of a pad on, or you have ultra sensitive skin. They do have pads that dont have perfumes and random chemicals. but you have to look closely.

If you have any other problems then consult your doctor.
Good Luck!

First off, TSS is not from the tampon itself (even men can get TSS and they cant even use tampons...even if they tried...duh!). It's mostly assoctiated with tampons because that's where you mainly hear they syndrome comming from. It's actually your own blood that's the problem. When you leave your tampon in too long, you blood stays there too (I used to know the technical stuff about how the blood is the problem, but trust me here). So you can wear your tampon on light days...heck I even wear one if I have a lot of discharge that day too! Again, it's your own blood that causes TSS, not the tampon itself!!
