Is hard stool bad?!


Question: & Taking laxative pills bad? It seems I don't really go to the bathroom that much, and when I do, it tends to be hard. Anything I can do to soften it without taking laxitives? Are laxatives bad for you?

Some laxatives, the stimulant type (ex- bisacodyl), are bad because your body gets use to them getting your system going rather than working for itself. The osmotic type (ex- Milk of Magnesia) can keep your body from absorbing needed vitamins and minerals. An occasional stool softener is ok but you should look for dietary and behavioral changes that can help you. Fiber supplements are safe to take everyday as long as you drink plenty of water. If you don't drink enough water, you can make the problem worse. If you are not already doing it, eat more fruit, veggies, and whole grain products. Also, exercise can help get your system moving. Trying to go at a regular time can retrain your system.

stool should be the consistence of peanut butter, laxatives are very bad for you, do not take them. increase your fiber and water intake.

Taking laxative pills is bad because you lose natural activity and the pills are habit forming and dependant.
In cold weather one tends to drink less water. Try drinking lukewarm water in quantity. Stop drinking aerated drinks, Beers with less alcohol may be good but cannot substitute water. Beers do add calories, another worry for weight gainers.

It is essential that one must go to the toilet at least once a day. Delays can also cause hard tools and painful ejection

Persistent hard tools can damage large intestines and rectum and cause ulcers or infections. So beware
