IUD's, Implants, or any Birth Control BESIDES the pill, the shot, and the pa!

Question: I am on the pill but forget it almost once a week and I do not want to get pregnant. I am looking for a method that will fit me better. I have been on the depo shot and it was horrible for me, I had spotting every day for 3 months until the medication wore off. I tried the patch for about a month and I was sick to my stomach every day and threw up most days.

Tell me your experience with IUD's like Mirena, or implants (like the kind that go in your arm), what are the side effects? I do not want to go through the hell of basically having my period all summer again. Please give me all the information you can!

I am in a committed relationship and have been for over a year so I am not worried about STDs and no I do not want to get pregnant within 5 years.

I had the mirena fitted 2 years ago and i haven't looked back. I used to have ghastly periods that went on for days, then my g.p. sugessted this to me and honestly, within, 1 week of having it fitted the difference was tremendous! the only thing is , it is easier to have it fitted if you have had a previous pregnacy. I'm 40 with 2 children one 18, one 13. you don't have to worry about birth control and my monthly is next to nothing each time i have one. this device can stay in for up to 5 years and it works as soon as it is popped in. Speak to your g.p. before you decide.Good luck.

No doctor will let you get an IUD unless you've had a baby. There were too many problems in the past with women claiming infertility due to IUD's.
I've had the Mirena IUD for almost 4 years. I really like it because there is nothing to remember. I don't have to have it replaced until next year. For most women, their periods get much lighter which is GREAT!!!! I can't feel it. I had it put in at the Dr's office and didn't have any problems after.

I had Mirena put in about 6 weeks after I had my daughter. IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE!!!!! the doctor did not put it in correctly and the IUD punctured my uterus, intestines and appendix. I had to have emergency surgery....so i am back on the pill. I don't think that you would have such a terrible time though, maybe it was just me. although there is the risk of your body doing that and trying to reject it since it is a foreign object...i am actually thinking of the Norplant device (the one that goes under your arm) good luck with finding something, because i know that I sure do hate being on the pill!!
