It has been proposed that for some who have actually been sexually abused, rape fantasy may be a way to heal past wounds by exploring in a safe environment with a sense of control. Dr. Michael J. Bader, author of Arousal: The Secret Logic of Sexual Fantasies, writes: "It is quite common that children who were abused grow up and develop sexual fantasies loosely based on their abuse. ... The adult indulging in a fantasy of sexual surrender or abasement is actually saying to her or himself: 'I'm recreating a terrifying or traumatic scene, but this time I'm in control because I'm scripting the scene ...'" A lot of women have fantasies about forcible or restrained sex. However, they are not really inviting or desiring abuse by doing so : they are just exploring various sexual stimuli in the safety of their own mind. It is really quite common and normal.

Even if you have been raped yourself, and it was a bad situation where you had no control or safety, you are still a human, a living, sexual being. Your fantasies are natural impulses and you are not strange or 'twisted' for having them. Your body and mind have survived a bad experience, but they are still curious and alive, like anyone else's.

Don't be too worried about your fantasies: you are in control of them, of your own sexuality and exploration. Just make sure you find the right help, respect and/or support from others whenever you wish to express or develop your sexuality.

You're totally normal and not alone.
