Question about generic birth control?!

Question: My doctor prescribed Ortho Tri Cyclen to regulate my periods. However, when I went to fill my prescription, the pharmacist asked me if I wanted the generic version (Tri Sprintec). It is almost $20 cheaper and she assured me it is EXACTLY the same. I went ahead and got the generic without consulting my doctor. Does it really make a difference?

I know I can contact my doc, but I am hearing impaired and there is no way to contact her but by phone. I would have to go out of my way to speak to her. I just wanted to see what others had to say first.

There is NO difference. I'm on the tri sprintec and it's exactly the same, just wonderfully cheaper. What happens is that after a few years the patent on a drug runs out and other companies are free to mimic the formula under a different, generic name for considerably less money. So yes, it's just fine! Most of the time the doctor's can check a box on the Rx pad that says "Generic acceptable?" or something to that effect. If it weren't OK the pharmacist wouldn't have filled it.

i took that stuff...it made me CRAZY... i got hormonal problems really bad and got so depressed i wanted to kill myself and stuff...i cried because i stepped on a worm when i was on that stuff...i was a basket case...so i switched to Yaz...it has been the best for me! never had not one problem!

There is honestly no difference, they all do the same thing.

For a generic to be approved by the FDA, it must prove it is the same exact thing as the brand name. I would have no problem dispensing that drug.
