Mamogram? ulrtasound? question?!

Question: Hi, What is the person called that does all that?

Answers: Hi, What is the person called that does all that?

A person who does mammograms is a radiologic technologist (the proper term for a x-ray technologist) who has received additional training and licensing in mammography. You cannot do mammography without first being a RT. Once you have your RT and additional licensing in mammography, you can be called a mammographer.

A person who does ultrasound is called an ultrasound technologist, sonographer or ultrasonographer. Most sonographers are first a RT, then do additional schooling and licensing in ultrasound. You don't have to be a RT before becoming a sonographer, but it can be very difficult to get into an ultrasound educational program without your RT license.

If you have other specific questions, don't hesitate to update your initial question. I have information about RT or ultrasound educational programs......

In CA...a mammographer makes $74,646 per year, on average. A sonographer makes $87,485 per year. Is that still not enough? Just wanted to make sure you have all the info you need to make a good decision.

  • Usually they went to school to become a "radiological technician". But then they can branch off and do other things like Mammogram's. An ultrasound tech is different, it requires more schooling.
