Birth control & Antibiotics?!

Question: I just posted this question, but it got deleted..sorry to those of you who already responded.

Okay, I'm a little confused about this.

Earlier, I responded to a question about antibiotics and birth control, and saw some conflicting answers.

Now, just recently I had a wisdom tooth pulled, and for the next week I was on Penicillin. I am also taking TriNessa. I called my clinic and asked one of the nurses how long after I finished the antibiotics I should wait for sexual activity. She told me to wait at least 4-5 days after, and I should be fine. BUT - I am seeing many say that you should wait WEEKS afterwards.

I know that you are supposed to use a back up method when this occurs, but I decided to just not have sex, instead of risking it. This is why I called, so that I would know when I would be okay again.

Which is true? How long should I really wait?

Thank you in advance for the help.

I would contact the doctor who prescribed the birth control for you. I was under the impression you need to wait till after you have your next period because the antibiotic stays in your system for a while even after you take the last dose.

I too would contact your ob/gyn who prescribed the pill to you...or a pharmacist to double-check.

I would use another form of contraception too. I am confused now too. Contact your Doctor
