Birth control pill, and moods?!

Question: Im on my third pack of Microgynon 30, and Im 16.
My mum thinks that when I have to go and sort out a repeat prescription I should ask to be put on a different sort because she thinks its making me moody (angry, and upset for nothing)
But, Im 16, and I know a lot of people my age are moody anyway, I hate doctors and would find it easier to stick with what I already have. But the first month, and so far in this third month I have felt quite upset for nothing.
What should I do?

Call your doctor, and ask about a low dose pill. Like, ortho trycyclen lo, or anything with a low dose. I liked Yasmin too, it was a great pill, and the mood swings were much more under control. AT your age, you will have a hard time finding a BC pill that won't make you moody, becuase of the crappy hormone thing.... but, hang in there. Most women do have to switch brands occasionally, for various reasons, but this is one of the most common reasons. Whatever you do, don't take Depo... sure, it's easier, but the mood swings are HORRIBLE. (Been there.... scared to think about it!! lol) Again, ask your DR about a low dose pill, and youll be surprised how much better you feel. ;)

Good luck!

You don't have to go back to the doctor, you should be able to just call the doctors office and ask them to call you in a different one. You wouldn't need to go in for another exam or anything. That would be ridiculous.

Or tell your mom you want to stick with the one you got, but if you think it's making you act differently I'd suggest trying another pill that might work better for you.

I'd suggest to try "Yaz", it has been a good one for me and several people I know. However.... you are describing normal side effects so there is a possibility that you might experience the same things with different brands.

You can research different birth control brands online... read reviews from people who have taken them.

first, i hop your on it because of periods or something like that...if your on it for sex...why so young....youll end up with a child and messed up somewhere...chill out

Man in the first place you should not be having sex at a young age like that its like u expect people to tell u this....but birth control pills are filled with hormones that change your moods like crazy so switch to not having sex or another pill

Birth control will make you a little nutty. I was doing the pill then switched to the patch. I would cry out of the blue. It was weird. I thought it was all in my head. But let me tell you, I was one mean "troll" Being younger only exacerbates this problem.

Talk to your GYN about other possibilities.

I have had the same problem with birth control pills, some of them just make you more moody and irratable. I was taking orthotricylin for a two years and then changed to a different one and everyone around me, including myself noticed a huge change in my mood. Sometimes it just depends on the type of perscription, if you are taking a generic version, try the the original version. Also, I am thinking about taking Yaz, it is the only birth control pill that has proven to have positive affects on those kinds of symptoms as well as bloating and menstrual breakouts. I know going to the doctor sucks, especially the gyno, but I'm sure it would help.

http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm says to try a pill with a lower progestin content for moodiness. My gyno said monophasic pills are better for those with mood swings, so the monophasic ones in the list of pills they recommend are: Alesse, Brevicon, Levlite, Modicon, and Ovcon-35. Alesse and Levlite have the lowest doses of estrogen, so you might try one of those first.

It can take a while to find the right pill for you, but your doctor should help you find one. Good luck.
