IUD strings, help?!

Question: So I got my IUD a couple weeks go. The cramps have stopped, yay! So I felt, last night, for the 1st time for the strings and I didn't feel them. How far do you have to go to feel them? I checked after sex; was that a bad time? My mind runs crazy; I've had pain in right ovary..more than the twinge I get each month with whichever one releases egg. I'm afraid it ran away in my body or something. Do you think I'll feel the strings if I try again in a couple days? I haven't felt them poke yet.

The answers so far are all right on. It's also possible that your doctor cut the strings shorter when you had the IUD inserted. I know when I got mine my doctor specifically told me that she cuts the strings even with the cervix as a matter of general practice so they probably wouldn't be long enough for me or my boyfriend to feel them. Just another possibility.

I always have my husband check for my strings because I cant feel my own strings either. Have your sex partner feel. Often times they are cut short (like mine). I used to always fear losing my IUD too, but if its lost then it means something serious and my doc assured me that if it was something serious like expulsion, embeddment or perforation I would feel pain.

Stop worrying. The string comes out the opening of the cervix (the os). Some people's cervix is facing to the back, and would be hard to reach. Also, the string gets wet, and does not just hang down according to gravity. IUD's are easy to place and rarely get dislodged.

The strings can sometimes wrap themselves around the body of an IUD. If you're worried about its placement, go see your doctor. While you're there, you can ask about the ramifications of having a curved cervix.

Some women's strings feel longer and shorter over the course of their monthly cycles, too The cervix can change.
