How can I find out if it's the birth contol pill giving me mood swings?!

Question: I remember having mood swongs before, but my mum says its got a lot worse since I started it in December.
Im on my third pack, I dont want to switch brands if its just me being like this!
Maybe if I skip one pill and see what happens?
Also, what would happen if I just stop taking it on the 8th day of a pack?
Would I have a period then or not?

You shouldn't skip pills... if you do it could cause problems ... When i first started my pill ...i was having mood swings majorly... ... but switching... you shouldnt worry about ... I switched to Aviane it works great ... it is a great pill it isnt to bad and i've seen a drastic change in mood swings...If you stop pills you will have your period but it will help to switch! Good luck!

If you stop the pill you will have a period. It may be the pills that are giving you mood swings. When I first started the pill I had to switch brands because it was making me very moody and emotional. Try changing brands, if that doesn't help, then it's just you. My guess is that it will help.

Skipping just one pill isn't going to make a difference. If you want to go off the pill for a month, finish out the pack you're on and just don't start the next pack. Just remember that you're not protected as soon as you stop taking the pill, whenever it is, so if you're sexually active, use a condom.

If you skip just one pill, your hormone levels may dip slightly. If you're sexually active, chances are slightly higher that you'll get pregnant. You won't know anything about whether or not it's the pill that's giving you mood swings because you'll still have the hormone in your system after just one day. The only way to tell is to get off the pill and assess how you feel for the next month (and the one after that, probably).
As for your question about stopping after the 8th day, it's hard to tell. Your body will be very very confused. When you start messing around with hormones, everything can get crazy. If you want to stop, do it after a full month is over.

P.S. Don't click on the link in the first answer. It's some really awful spam that crashed my firefox.

Oh yes, the pill can definitely give you mood swings, or even worse, depression. You shouldn't just stop without calling your doctor. Skipping one pill is a bad idea, especially if you are actually using it for birth control.
YOu would get a period when you stop, if you did. But I would suggest calling the doc and seeing if she could switch your brand, b/c maybe another brand might not cause this side effect with you. It might take several different brands until you find the right one.
