I think my first tampon, my directions said it's easiest if you raise one leg and rest it on the toilet, with the other leg straight down (kind of like in a captain morgan's stand) and just slowly put it in. The Playtex kind come ready to go, so you hold the middle (where the small curve is) and push just about the first inch of the tip of the plastic in, and then put your forefinger on the bottom of the tampton (where the string is coming out) and slowly push it into the tube until you feel like you can move around with it inside you (comfortably)

you don't want to push it too far, and you don't want to leave any part of it out, because it will hurt a lot and feels like something is trying to crawl out of you. you'll have to start over if that happens.

it's not that hard, and you actually don't feel it (or you just get used to it) throughout the day.

it's best to change it at LEAST every 4-8 hours (even though the box says 8-12 hours), but i usually change it every time i use the bathroom (about 2-3 times a day).

do NOT sleep with them in (unless you absolutely HAVE to). try a thin pantyliner for sleeping.

It should give you directions on the box.

there are directions on the box

DO NOT USE A TAMPON FOR UR FIRST PERIOD UR BODIE MAY GO IN TO SHOCK AND U MAY HAVE TO GO TO THE DOCTOR. use a napkin

First of all relax. Have a look at the instructions that came with the tampons. Then you should have no problems putting in a tampon.

there's directions in the box. all ya gotta do is hold the middle of the tampon with your middle finger and thumb, put it by your ''opening'' and thenpush it up there with your index finger. then you take the cardboard out and the string should be on the outside so you can pull it out later. it takes some practice, so if you dont get it right the first time, it's ok. oh, and once it's up there, you shouldn't be able to feel it at all.

You dont understand the box directions wow!Well try using a pad and or tissue.
Find the most relaxed position for your body while inserting the tampon. Raising one of your legs on a footstool or on the rim of a toilet makes the process easier. Here's how to insert a tampon without any problems or discomfort.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need
Tampons
Vaseline
Steps
1Step OneBuy tampons that are appropriate to your menstrual flow: light, average or heavy.
2Step TwoWash your hands with soap and hot water.
3Step ThreeRemove the tampon from the wrapper.
4Step FourSlide the applicator a few inches into the vagina (tampon side in), but not so far that you can't hold the outer of the two tubes that make up the applicator.
5Step FivePush the inner tube into the outer tube, releasing the tampon into the vagina.
6Step SixSlide the applicator out.
7Step SevenMake sure the tampon's string remains outside the vagina.
8Step EightWrap the applicator in toilet paper and throw it away. Do not flush it down the toilet.
Tips & Warnings
Buy the lowest absorbency that works for you without leaking.
Insert the tampon gently; don't jam it in.
Wear a minipad or panty liner - not a tampon - during the lightest days of your period.
Tampon packages have directions inside. Read them if you need help.
Use a small amount of petroleum jelly if the tampon does not go in easily.
You shouldn't be able to feel the tampon in your body. If you can, you may not have inserted it far enough. Remove it and try again with a new tampon. Try inserting the applicator a little further into the vagina before pushing the inner tube of the applicator into the outer tube.
Change your tampon every 4 to 8 hours to avoid leakage.
To avoid toxic shock syndrome, do not keep the same tampon in for more than 8 hours.

Just to make a comment about the direction, it would be nice if you had an illustration to go along with the directions because I'm sure many teenagers are struggling to put in a tampon, but let alone not know where to put it.Many teenagers are afraid to ask their parents (mom) about tampons.. trust me i was one of them.
-thank you

Lessons from my experiments - 1) Tampons are somewhat like syringes. You have to push the lower cardboard tube entirely into the upper tube in order to insert the tampon completely.
2) Before you start pushing the lower tube, you have to insert the upper tube almost totally into your vagina.
3) The important step for a beginner is to find the opening of your vagina, place the tip of the tampon there and then slowly push the upper tube by constantly judging the direction in which the tampon is going in.
4) Keep in mind the fact that you might have to try pushing it from different angles.
5) Once the upper tube is 90% inside, slowly push the lower tube, till the lower tube is totally inside the upper tube.
6) Now you can slowly pull both the tubes out.
There!
