Is this normal in regard to "that time of the month"?!

Question: I was on oral contraceptives for 12 years and then I found out I could not have children. For 12 years I did not get a period and now I do, it lasts 3-4 days but I have a whole myraid of systems tender breasts, needing chocolate like my life dpends on it, Crying while I e-mail my family and friends, being snappy and irritable and talking mean and fresh to my husband Are these symptoms normal when a lady has her cycle? I am in my 30s. I did get a breast and pelvic exam and all was well and everything came back negative so why at certain times of the month do I feel so crabby and*itchy and hungry all the time?

Some of the symptoms you describe are very normal, but severe moodswings and irritability could be signs of something called PPMD. It's a more serious form of PMS that often requires therapy and medication. I would talk to your doctor or GYN about it and see what they think.

You can read more about it in this link: http://www.pmdd.factsforhealth.org/

Very normal.

That's called PMS!!! Welcome to the club! Perfectly normal.

:)

No doubt, it is your significant others fault.

Edit-Now that I read your name, it is actually Eve's fault, damn her eating that fruit. It is god's punishment to womankind.

It is very normal hormonal surges that you are going through. I know it must stink to have to go through it when you haven't for the last few years, but get you some Midol or Pamprin. It'll help.

these exact same things happen to me and most of my girlfriends ... heck I've even cried during a garth brooks video (so lame) Try having a relaxing bath some chocolate get lots of rest and hope your hubby understands the crabby mood!!! (try to laugh it off !)

As long as your doctor says you're fine, there's a good chance you are. Your emotional changes? Three words- Pre.Menstrual.Syndrome. We all crave foods, and get crabby, irritable, bloated, tender breasts, the whole deal. But there are disorders that make PMS ridiculously unbearable and much worse than average. They're treatable, so go to your doctor to check.

oh its like your my twin!! i'm so glad i'm not the only moody b*tch. i am terrible on my period, actually i'm just worse on my period. I get tender breasts and that is the one time of the month i can hardly resist chocolate. so welcome to actually being a woman. your lucky you went this long with out it. Basically just tell your husband to disregard everything you say during those few days.

This is very normal, and with you not having a period for so long it could be all built up hormones. i was on Depo for 2 years and when i finally got off and had a period it was very bad for the first few months!

it's normal unfortunatly. I'm 43 and it gets worse(sorry)

Dearest - ask your GYN about PMDD.

In your 30's - the symptoms can get worse as your hormones shift into Peri-menopause.

I use a product from Puritan's Pride called "Flash Fighters" and it helped immensly... then my Diabetes Doctor put me on Metformin for my sugar control - and it levelled my periods, hormone fluxes and emotional rollercoasters out in totality.

Metformin can also be given to women to INCREASE their fertility... you just have to watch your blood sugar. Talk to your GYN about that as well.

I have Endomitriosis so severe that it would cause my body to go into flows that lasted 5 months and then false pregnancies for 2 to 3 months... and as a celebate woman - THAT was alarming!

Metformin and Flash Fighters ended all my problems.

Remember - I am in full Peri-menopause, since I will be 45 this year. Go online and look for the sites that give Q and A's about PMDD and see if you score high enough to be medicated for it... and then talk to your GYN about the options.

Go online to Puritan's Pride Vitamins and check out "Flash Fighters." You can call and have them send you their catalog. It works better than Estroven Extra Strength EVER did for me.

By the way - DARK chocolate has been proven to be EXTREMELY high in heart-healthy bioflavanoids, it helps lower cholesterol, control pain, and increase vein strength. It is even being used in Medical research for heart patients with astoundingly positive results.

Have your chocolate... guilt free!

Peace.

Sounds perfectly normal to me.
